Mostly, for every lottery pick in the NBA draft, there is a crowning moment in the league. A game where they announce themselves or one spectacular play, details of which are remembered for the time to come. For Atlanta Hawks’ Dyson Daniels, he has had plenty of those moments. The 21-year-old is enjoying a breakout season averaging 13.6 points, grabbing 5 boards, and 3.1 assists.
Going back to those crowing moments, Ben McCauley, who was Dyson’s coach, recalls one particular tournament where the youngster really showed up! He was playing in the top-age under-16s at the National Junior Classic and the Braves had opened their campaign with a heavy defeat. “We lost by nearly 20 to one of the Sydney teams,” said McCauley.
This defeat fueled motivation for Dyson, as McCauley further said, “Dyson was having an average tournament to start with. But he just got better and better as the tournament went on.” By the time the grand final was around the corner, the young gun was averaging twenty points. Furthermore, he went on to score 34 points ensuring his side’s victory and also winning the Finals MVP!

Dyson Daniels, since then, has come a long way at a very young age, but throughout all this, his father, Ricky has been together with him. His father was a hoopster himself and has had a heavy influence over Dyson picking up the sport. Let’s dive deeper into Daniels’ family roots and get to learn about his hometown, ethnicity, and much more.
Where is Dyson Daniels from? Atlanta Hawks star’s nationality revealed
Dyson Daniels was born in Bendigo, Victoria, which is in Australia. So, naturally, this makes Daniels an Australian by nationality. He was born to parents, Brikitta Kool-Daniels and Ricky Daniels on March 17, 2003. The boy from Bendigo started hooping at just 7! The young gun would then go on to attend Bendigo South East College and rise through the ranks by showcasing his talent on the court. Interestingly, Dyson’s dad Ricky was also a hoopster, in fact, he is considered a local basketball legend!
Ricky played for the Bendigo Braves and was named the South East Australian Basketball League MVP twice. Dyson also followed in the footsteps of his father and signed with the Braves in 2019, and that was not the only sport Dyson was good at. He was a great Australian rules football player, too. So much so that he represented his home state of Victoria in several National Championships before deciding to solely focus on the hoop. There is no information about which religion/faith the Hawks star follows.
