The Dallas Mavericks have suffered like no other team in the 2024/25 NBA season. After offloading their best player, Luka Doncic to the Lakers, their fortune seems to keep taking a turn for the worse. However, amidst this dark cloud over Dallas, Brandon Williams has emerged as a bright ray of hope.
Given the numerous injuries plaguing the Mavs squad, Williams was given a shot to help out his team. And, wow, did he run with it! Most recently, he registered a career-high 31 points against the Memphis Grizzlies. Brandon’s recent performances have put everyone on notice. And fans are more curious about him than ever. So, today, let’s try to answer some questions you may have about the Mavs’ guard.

Where is Brandon Williams from? What are his ethnicity and religion?
Even though he plays for the Mavericks, Brandon Williams is actually a California boy! He was born in Los Angeles back in 1999. Frankly, we don’t know too much about his family, since Williams and his relatives have chosen to keep away from the 24-hour news cycle to maintain their privacy.
However, we do know that he is of African-American descent. As for his religion, well, Williams is a devout Christian. He can be seen sharing sermons and preaching he likes from several holy men. One such person is Reverend Dr. Westley West, who goes by the moniker, Pastor West online. It’s clear Williams takes his faith very seriously, something we’re sure has helped him throughout his career.
Especially during the early days when he had to forfeit his college career. Why, you ask? Well, Brandon took quite the unconventional route into the NBA. So, let’s see what it was like for him.
Which college did Brandon Williams attend? Has he played in the NBA G-League?
Brandon Williams left Crespi Carmelite High School as a four-star recruit. This was enough for the Arizona Wildcats to recruit him in 2018. Brandon saw quite a bit of success by the time his freshman year concluded. But here’s where things went awry for young Brandon.

A knee surgery in 2019 meant he missed his entire sophomore year. So, he left the following year to heal up and prepare for his inevitable professional career. However, things wouldn’t pan out for him once again, as he went undrafted in the 2021 NBA Draft.

But here’s where his tenacity played a big part in determining his future. Brandon joined the Westchester Knicks in the NBA G-League. And let’s just say he did not disappoint. He may have only played 10 games for the Knicks. But in them, he averaged 17.7 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists, great numbers from the future NBA star! These showings were enough for the Portland Trail Blazers to come calling after Covid-19 decimated their roster. But ga 10-day contract meant this wasn’t Brandon’s ticket into the NBA. No, that would come later.

However, he went back to playing for the Knicks after this contract expired. Since then, he played for the College Park Skyhawks and the Osceola Magic between 2022 and 2023 before he signed for the Dallas Mavericks.
And the rest, as they say, is history! Williams is now in the second year of his NBA career. And people are finally beginning to take notice. Although, considering his talent and grit, we’d say it’s for a good reason!
