“When it was happening with ESPN, people think it be all cap when Stephen A was like it could’ve been anybody. It really could. Nobody was safe”, said Perkins.

Currently, Smith is signed to a five-year $60 million deal sealed in 2019 according to New York Post. For this reason, fans resorted to bashing the veteran as his job didn’t seem in danger.

Stephen A. Smith is not the type to sit back and listen to all the unnecessary criticism he received during the layoffs. He made a fiery claim suggesting that his top ratings are the reason he hasn’t been fired yet.

They don’t have the number one show, they don’t have the top ratings, they don’t generate more revenue. How come ya’ll didn’t bring their names out?”, said Smith.

Just 24 hours before lashing out at his critics, Smith had revealed that “I could be next”. However, it looks like the veteran analyst is here to stay and captivate audiences through ‘First Take’.
