Despite missing Jimmy Butler for the first-round series, Miami fans feel pretty confident about their chances against the top-seeded Celtics. In the last 4 seasons, the Heat have faced the Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals three times. And Erik Spoelstra’s squad is 2-1 against Boston in those encounters. Who can forget Miami’s dream run to the NBA Finals last year?
They were in a similar situation last season, finishing as the 8th seed after qualifying through the play-in tournament. But Jimmy Butler and Co. made an improbable run to the NBA Finals, beating the top-seeded Milwaukee Bucks in the first round and the 2nd-seeded Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals. However, Jimmy Butler played a huge role in Miami’s success last season. He was the best player on the Heat roster, averaging 26.9 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 5.9 assists in the 2023 playoffs. So, Spoelstra will have to come up with a new strategy to make up for Butler’s absence until he returns.

The reason Miami fans’ confidence reached an all-time high tonight was the dominant performance by the Heat without Butler. Instead of succumbing to the pressure of not having their best player, the Heat thrived in tonight’s elimination game. Tyler Herro put up an elite all-around performance, finishing with 24 points, 10 rebounds, and 9 assists. He also shot 4 of 9 from beyond the arc. Rookie Jaime Jaquez Jr. also showed why he is ready for the playoffs despite being only 23 years old. He scored 21 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists in tonight’s win.
The Heat also benefited from the veteran presence of Kevin Love. The former Champion utilized his playoff experience and made all the right plays to lead Miami to victory. He scored 16 points and 7 rebounds coming off the bench. The Heat have always had the ‘Next Man Up’ mentality, which helps them overcome tough situations like Butler’s injury. Hopefully, they will be able to use that to their advantage against the Celtics in the first round and make another dream playoff run.
