Not long ago, the Phoenix Suns acquired Kevin Durant, hoping to finally get over the hump and win a long-awaited Championship. But their experiment has failed miserably after the Big 3 were swept by a young Timberwolves squad. And that gave rise to several speculations about the Suns trading Durant this summer, possibly to the Golden State Warriors, once again. While rumors of KD reuniting with Stephen Curry take centerstage, 3-time NBA Champion Danny Green revealed how the Slim Reaper would handle the Draymond Green situation in that scenario.
Despite all the differences that came to the spotlight, which might have played a part in KD leaving the Warriors in 2019, Danny claimed, “I think [Durant and Draymond] is water under the bridge… I think they want to win and would sacrifice for the greater good.” After Durant left Golden State in 2019, many wondered if his courtside altercation with Draymond, during a regular season game against the Clippers, a year prior, was a reason the 2-time Champion made that decision.

In a 2018 game, with Durant frustrated after Draymond refused to pass him the ball to potentially hit a game-winning shot, Green reportedly called KD a “bi**h” multiple times and said, “We don’t need you. We won without you. Leave.” And he did, the very next year. But the duo seemed to bury the hatchet two years later during a one-on-one conversation on an episode of “Chips” by Bleacher Report.
Taking the blame away from each other and putting it on how the situation was handled, they cleared the air between them. And if there is a chance of KD coming back to Golden State, Draymond likely wouldn’t mind because it will give them a chance to extend their dynasty and win another chip. Moreover, with the proven record of his success with the Warriors last time and how well he fits alongside Steph, KD could be the perfect addition to the Warriors roster. Winning two chips in three years, KD did wonders in the Warriors uniform and he might do the same again.

Will Draymond’s actions this season affect Kevin Durant’s future?
Another major reason fans are doubting Durant returning to Golden State and working things out with Draymond is that just a few months ago, Green got suspended for hitting KD’s teammate Jusuf Nurkic in the head during a game. And KD claimed Green’s behavior was “insane to see” and hoped he got the help he needed. While Durant had the right intentions with his comments, they rubbed Draymond the wrong way.
Just a couple of days later, on The Draymond Green Show, Green addressed KD’s comments, revealing it “really pissed” him off. However, the little misunderstanding between the two former teammates soon vanished as KD further clarified his statement after the backlash, saying, “I don’t mean to disrespect him or his family if he felt that way. I’m just glad he’s back on the court.”

With that, Draymond also let go of the situation, expressing his love for KD, “I respect KD as a basketball player. He’s one of the best we’ve ever seen, and that’s kind of where it’s at. I got no ill will. I actually got nothing but love for KD, actually.” Now that Durant still has two years and $105 million on his contract and the Warriors have a lot of assets they could exchange for him, there might be a potential trade in order.
Do you agree with Danny Green about Draymond and Durant possibly working out their differences to win another title together?
