Lionel Messi put Inter Miami on the map after signing with the team this July. After rejecting a move to Saudi Arabia, the Argentinian shocked the world by joining the MLS. He had an immediate impact on the American league and led Inter Miami to the Leagues Cup trophy in August. Hoping to add one more title to his trophy cabinet, Lionel Messi was set to face Houston Dynamo in the US Open Cup final. Unfortunately, the World Cup winner was ruled out of the big game due to an injury.

Inter Miami lost to Houston Dynamo 1-2 in the match while Lionel Messi watched from the bench helplessly. NBA superstar James Harden, who holds a minority stake in the $425 Million Houston Dynamo team, showed his excitement as his team beat the Argentinian’s squad to lift the trophy.

Inter Miami faced Houston Dynamo in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup Final. Houston Dynamo capitalized on Lionel Messi’s absence and took an early lead in the match. They scored two quick goals in succession, taking a commanding 2-0 lead over Messi’s squad. James Harden, who bought a minority stake in the Houston Dynamo in 2019 was also in attendance to witness the thrilling encounter. After Amine Bassi scored a penalty in the 33rd minute to take a 2-0 lead, The Beard could not hide his excitement and screamed in triumph. The Philadelphia 76ers guard was super excited to beat this year’s Leagues Cup winners.

 

Inter Miami tried to make a comeback by scoring a late goal in the 92nd minute. But it was too late. Lionel Messi watched from the sidelines as his team lost in the final match. James Harden’s team lifted the coveted US Open trophy at the end of the night.

James Harden’s investment paid off

James Harden bought a minority stake in Houston Dynamo in 2019 when he was still a part of the Houston Rockets. Along with the MLS club, Harden also purchased stakes in the National Women’s Soccer League club Houston Dash. “Houston is my home now, and I saw this as a way to invest in my city and expand my business interests at the same time.” The former MVP said, projecting a long-term future in Houston. Unfortunately, he was traded to the Brooklyn Nets the following year.

Even though Harden has parted ways with the Houston Rockets, he continues to return to the city of Houston because of his multiple businesses and investments. He also keeps returning to his former home to give back to the community by helping the underprivileged people of Houston. It is great to see Harden supporting his team as they beat one of the GOATs of soccer.
