The fans of the Milwaukee Bucks must be ecstatic, as they have acquired one of the best players in the NBA. After a protracted trade saga, the Blazers finally traded Damian Lillard for Jrue Holiday, DeAndre Ayton, an unprotected Bucks pick in 2029 and first round swaps in 2028 and 2030. It was a blockbuster trade that has huge implications throughout the league.

The Blazers fans must be upset and rightly so because Dame served Portland with utmost loyalty and sincerity. The franchise thanked Lillard for a decade of unforgettable experiences, but the tribute triggered the fans.

Damian Lillard – A True Legend of Portland

The Portland Trail Blazers drafted Damian Lillard at the 2012 NBA Draft Night. Dame wasted no time in making the mark in the league. He won the Rookie of the Year award in 2013 above the likes of Draymond Green, Anthony Davis, Bradley Beal, and Khris Middleton.

Over the years, Dame has blossomed into one of the best players in the NBA. In fact, last season was Dame’s best season statistically. He averaged 32.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 7.3 assists per game.

After trading him to the Bucks, The Blazers posted an emotional tribute to Dame on their social media handles.

Lillard’s world class showings for Portland haven’t gone unnoticed. Dame has 7x NBA All-Star selections and 7x All-NBA honors to his name. His remarkable scoring ability, especially from long-range, has earned him the nickname “Logo Lillard”. Despite being in a smaller market, Lillard’s loyalty and leadership have endeared him to fans. He’s led the Blazers to numerous playoff appearances, showcasing his clutch performances and determination.

Promising Signs from the Blazers

After the Blazers posted a tribute video on their Twitter handle, a user by the name of Bold commented, “235M for 11 years. A waste of time and money”.

It is true that the Blazers paid Dame adequately during his time in Portland, but, many say, any other franchise would’ve happily paid him that kind of money for his services. And yet Dame stuck around with the Blazers for ten years and tried to win the right way.

Lillard’s career in Portland reflects his commitment to both the team and the city, making him an iconic figure in Trail Blazers’ history.

While it is a huge blow to lose a player of Lillard’s caliber, but the Blazers have selected Dame’s heir already. The Blazers drafted Scoot Henderson in 2023 NBA Draft Night. He, along with Simons, Sharpe and Ayton, provide a solid young core to build a title contending team in the future.
