In the wee hours of December 16, the NBA world was stuck with shocking news. The Lithuanian and Russian media reported the death of Janis Timma, the Latvian baller who had once played for the Orlando Magic. This news immediately garnered a lot of attention because of the nature of his passing. The 32-year-old’s remains were found outside the entrance of one of the highrise buildings in the Russian capital, Moscow.
As per the information available online, TASS news agency reported the death and the officials haven’t stated the cause of death. Moreover, several reports believe that Timma may have died by jumping off the building. Importantly, the baller’s death came weeks after he expressed his intention to play professional basketball in Russia amid backlashes. As a direct impact of Russian aggression on Ukraine, the Latvian athletes were banned from taking in Russian sports.
Several media reports also suggested Janis Timma had been undergoing emotional and marital issues over the last few months. Timma married the Ukrainian singer, Anna Volodymyrivna Sedokova, in 2020 but had an on-and-off relationship with her.
