Who would you support out of Stephen Curry and his brother if they ever met in the playoffs? For most of us, it would be the fan-favorite star, Steph. However, for the Curry family, it wasn’t the best experience watching their sons going at it in the playoffs. Back in 2019, the Blazers faced the Warriors in the Conference Finals. GSW was without KD and the Blazers were coming off 7 hard-fought games against Denver. The tensions were as high as they could get, but then again, the anxiety levels couldn’t match Dell and Sonya’s.

Dell and Mama Curry talked about the condensed playoff series that wasn’t enjoyable at all. “It was absolutely horrible. I mean and people have asked us afterwards like when I’d respond, don’t get me wrong, it was such a blessing to have my children on that stage and them competing. And I know it was fun for them as siblings. As parents, when that buzzer went off, and that series was over, I literally boohooed and cried from stress… I could not 100% cheer for one team.”, Sonya said on Raising Fame.

Well, the Curry family not only had their sons on the floor, but Sydel’s husband, Damion Lee, also played for the Warriors. And yes, it can become stressful to support one team, knowing how important the series was. However, out of Steph and Seth, it was the Golden Boy who needed his parents’ support. Of course, at the end of the day, both brothers were focused on getting the job done, but the legendary sharpshooter wanted his parents to root for him!

“Actually Stephen had a little opposition to it because he’s so used to us coming out and being with him during all the playoffs… All of our kids are like that, but he shows us more. Stephen is the one that looks up in the stands for us. Stephen is talking to us during the game… So he looks for that, and looks for us to actually be there.”, Sonya added.

Unfortunately for Seth, the Blazers faced a 4-0 sweep in the series as they lost to the Dubs. But then again, even after this stressful series, the Curry family had to face another heartbreaking event.

The 2019 NBA Finals was more of a nightmare for Stephen Curry

Entering the Finals, the Warriors were almost shorthanded. KD was still out and Andre Iguodala suffered an injury, so the Slim Reaper decided to wing it. Durant managed to return, but just 11 minutes in, he tore his Achilles. It was a devastating moment for Stephen Curry and Co., but still, the Warriors went on to force a Game 6. Up until the third quarter, things were in favor of the Bay Area side. It almost seemed as if the Warriors would make yet another 3-1 comeback.

What’s your perspective on:

Is it fair to blame Dell and Sonya Curry for the family drama affecting Stephen Curry's game?

Have an interesting take?

Just then, Klay Thompson went down with an ACL injury. And after knocking down two brave free throws, he didn’t return to action for the next 30 months! This left Stephen Curry in shambles. Out of all the Warriors, Steph felt guilty about KD and Klay’s injuries. So much so that Curry reportedly punched the wall post-game. It was definitely a heartbreaking moment for the Curry family and Steph, knowing how hard they worked to win their third straight title.

But on the bright side, Steph redeemed the tough loss three years later. Not only that, but he also lifted his first-ever Finals MVP award. It will be interesting to see whether he makes up for Klay’s absence this year, as the Dubs prepare for a tough season ahead.
