Can Buddy Hield and Steph Curry recreate the magic of the original Splash Brothers?

The Golden State Warriors have started to pick up momentum this offseason. After losing their long-time shooting guard Klay Thompson, the dubs signed Wolves’ Kyle Anderson on a four-year deal. While the forward may not be a total replacement for Klay, he still can be a valuable asset. However, the Dubs still need an All-Star talent to glue alongside Steph Curry and Draymond Green. Although guys like Kumina and Podziemski have shown great potential, the Dubs need an experienced player to add to their starting lineup. The Dubs have finally made a move to add a veteran.

Philly and the Warriors have agreed to a sign-and-trade deal that will send Buddy Hield to the Warriors for the 2031 Dallas second-round pick. Hield will make $18 million in the first two years. In his third year, he’ll make $3 million on a partial guarantee and has a player option in the non-guaranteed fourth year. This is a great transaction considering Hield’s resume. He is a consistent shooter and just the player the Warriors need to fill in their shooting guard spot.

Earlier the Warriors had also planned to sign Paul George through a sign-and-trade, but their dreams came to an end after PG declared free agency. It now seems as if the Dubs are slowly adding relevant assets to their roster. When it comes to Hield as a shooting guard, he wasn’t as consistent last season. He made his playoff debut alongside the MVP, however, he could look to attempt more shots now that he is in Golden State. Of course, playing under Steve Kerr, he’ll get his desired looks, but the 31-year-old will have quite some load to take care of.

One of the interesting facts about the recent transactions is that Anderson and Hield’s salaries combine to a total of what could’ve been Thompson’s paycheck. The Warriors have two news assets but they still need yet another player off the market to solidify their roster. So far, Hield seems to be a great option, but how can the Dubs expect him to play alongside Steph?

Hield is one of the most underrated shooters in the league. But playing alongside Steph, he will get much more opportunities on the offensive end.  In fact, Hield has made more three-pointers than Curry in the last five seasons. Are the Warriors looking at a new splash brother? For the most part, they might be. Though if Hield is open to taking a more serious role as a shooting guard, then the Dubs may have found the perfect replacement.

Have an interesting take?

Yes, Buddy Hield does not have the postseason experience that the veterans on the roster have. But then again, playing alongside Steph Curry as a guard will be impactful for Hield. Not to mention the younger guys and Anderson, the Dubs’ roster is balanced to a certain level. It will be interesting to see the Warriors continue to make moves in the offseason, as they’re currently eyeing Jazz’ Lauri Markkanen.
