The Bay Area is caught in a wildfire after a surprise move from Klay Thompson. The Golden State Warriors‘ sharp shooter unfollowed the Dubs’ official handle on Instagram, sending a mixed signal to the NBA world. While fans and analysts decoded the act and predicted a possible break-up, there could be another side to the story. Especially after Draymond Green asserted, “I think it’s f**king hilarious… That’s comical. I know y’all be wanting like somebody’s feelings to be hurt or something. It ain’t that. It ain’t never going to that.” The power forward looked unaffected and almost indicated that his long-time partner wasn’t leaving anytime soon.
At the same time, Evan Giddings, a popular Bay Area podcast host, made his case on why Klay’s act is a “weak move” and why Joe Lacob should remain unfazed. He said, “I don’t think that scrubbing his social media makes Joe Lacob look at him differently, makes Mike Dunleavy look at him differently. They’ve known Klay for 12 years.” He thinks it’s better for China Klay to stay put because he felt Philly’s media would “swallow him whole” if the Dubs superstar was 0-10 FG for the 76ers.
Above all, Evan Giddings made a case that even put the 4x NBA Champ’s legacy into doubt. “If he did that in another major market in which he doesn’t have a connection to. If you go somewhere else, you’re no longer the four-time champion that you’re to the Warriors. You won’t get the benefit of the doubt when you perform poorly,” the host concluded on 95.7 The Game. On a hilarious note, Thompson, who is known for pulling out four fingers whenever someone goes after him, won’t have a way to shut down his critics, going by Giddings’ logic.

Speaking about his 4-finger proud gesture, he once regretted doing the same to Devin Booker in 2023. The duo exchanged words on the court in the middle of the game and Klay was soon assessed two technical fouls and given marching orders. Well, despite his antics and sub-par form to end this season, a lot of the Warriors fanbase still admires him. Which now brings us to the burning question.
Will Klay Thompson ever cut his ties with the Bay Area?
Well, that’s the burning question that has been doing rounds in the NBA world. And Thompson added fuel to the fire with his latest act on social media. One might wonder why unfollowing the Dubs handle makes such a big deal. At least in the eyes of the media, it’s a big deal. When LeBron James unfollowed Kendrick Perkins, everyone ran back to track the reasons. The media declared that James was upset with the former player’s comments.
In the same way, Klay Thompson’s action has created massive trade rumors in the NBA world. On top of it, a report from January revealed that he has developed a “strained relationship” with Joe Lacob after the exit of Bob Myers. The star also has reportedly rejected a $48 million worth 2-year offer.

Then a few weeks ago, another report stated that Klay would sign a two-year contract worth $46 million in the off-season, giving hope to fans. Nevertheless, the latest on the star has only given mixed signals to fans in addition to his social media act. So it’s never clear until the management makes an official announcement. Until then, we fans have to live in rumor land.
