Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green with the Warriors? That is definitely a season I would pay whatever to watch! It is a partnership that can have two results. Both extreme. Either they are going to dominate the league like never before. Or, it’s going to be a terrible nightmare the Dubs would give anything to forget. Can’t there be a middle ground, you ask?

Apparently not, according to popular NBA analyst, Amin Elhassan. “Kind of feel like he would ruin it, man. I love Jimmy. I love the Warriors. But these are like two things I love that don’t need to be together,” he said in the latest episode of Oddball. But was that the only reason?

“I just think the personality conflict is too great,” Elhassan further clarified when his co-host, Charlotte Wilder, asked if there was any world where the partnership would work. But you have already heard what Athletic’s Sam Amick has said about a likely Butler move to the Bay Area.

“The Warriors, as you know, have interest there and I think probably made a couple calls during the summer,” Amick said recently in The TK Show. He further pointed out that Miami has yet to offer an extension to their franchise star. The man in question is eligible for a two-year $113 million contract, not to mention, is a free agent next summer. And we don’t have to remind you of Pat Riley’s remarks about Butler’s commitment to the team, either.

As for the Warriors, they are yet to find that third All-Star pair for Steph Curry and Green. Their offseason chase ended in, well, nothing. Paul George looked like he was on his way there until the negotiations fell apart at the 11th hour. And then they tried to lure Lauri Markkanen from Utah. But the Jazz, who weren’t actively shipping the Finnish 7-footer unless they received in kind, also fizzled out.

And now, with the 2024-25 season getting close, their best option would be to work on their existing roster and pray they can deliver. Or get Jimmy Butler. However, the ‘conflicting personality’ comment isn’t something we can easily discount.

Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green’s dominant personalities could prove to be too intense for the Dubs

What happens when you put two apex predators in a close space? Of course, the outcomes vary, but none of them suggest a positive ending. Don’t believe me? Try a quick Google search. But since we are humans and are more understanding, there might be a chance where co-existing is possible, albeit with severe risk factors.

Jimmy Butler is known for his intense work ethic and fiery personality. And while it works perfectly well in the Heat culture, it has put him at odds (that’s putting it mildly) with teammates on several occasions. Perhaps the 6x All-Star’s most famous conflict was during his time in Minnesota.

Unhappy with the then-young stars Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins’ lack of drive and intensity to win, Butler reportedly took third-string players and dominated a scrimmage against the team’s starters. And all this while, he was trash-talking both them and the front office. Needless to say, it led to serious tension in the team. Not too long after, he had requested for a trade to the Sixers.

Now, his time in Philly wasn’t any better. Confrontations with then-coach Brett Brown and even Ben Simmons led to some internal tension. However, you have got to give credit where it’s due. The 76ers remained competitive throughout his stay. And as for Green, we have got two names for you – Kevin Durant in 2018 and Jordan Poole in 2022. Enough said.

But things could, for once, go in the right direction, too. These men are potentially in the last leg of their careers. A fifth ring wouldn’t hurt Green. And the only thing missing in the resume of a decorated veteran forward like Jimmy Butler is a championship. If Dray and Jimmy can work together, pretty sure the Warriors are going to be lethal.

Oh and, as a bonus, the Warriors would never be out of quality coffee!
