Is Draymond Green a genius strategist or just a troublemaker disrupting the Warriors' harmony?

Draymond Green’s undoubtedly a gift and a gamble for the Dubs! Even though the 6 ‘5 tall power forward’s effort doesn’t reflect on the scoreboard, he’s the brains behind the Warriors‘ offense. And the former DPOY winner has a decent reputation at the defensive end as well. However, the damage the big man leaves on the side due to his stubborn nature is equally destructive. It often breaks up bonds within the franchise. At times, Green considered it as an act to take the team across the finish line.

Yes, we’re talking about Kevin Durant and Jordan Poole, who left the franchise after a short stint following a scuffle with Green. In the case of KD, the superstar, even after winning two back-to-back championships with the Dubs, left the franchise of an evident tussle with DrayMagic. In fact, the famous visual of Durant saying “That’s why I’m out” repeatedly surfaces on the internet. And, Jordan Poole, this affair doesn’t need any introduction. There’s video evidence of the 4x NBA Champ punching the youngster!

While Draymond Green’s accidental clashes resulted in two break-ups, there’s another one that the star ignited intentionally. Yes, Green admitted to having created a “rift” between Stephen Curry and Chris Paul. This is not from the previous season but from the past. Speaking in the latest episode of his podcast show, featuring his teammate, Moses Moody, Green revealed his questionable act to drive the team.

“So I come in, and I’m watching him and Steph’s relationship, and I’m like, that ain’t going to work for us to be who we want to be… So I started being messy in between and creating a rift because I’m like, I need this rift in order for us to be able to move ahead.” Ironically, the trio teamed up last season for a one-off season.

Steph-CP3 bond – Draymond Green plays spoilsport

When Stephen Curry walked into the league, Chris Paul was already a 4-year NBA vet. Ahead of Curry’s draft into the Warriors’ fold, the superstar worked with CP3 in the 2009 summer, preparing for his rookie season. This link-up not only imparted Paul’s wisdom into Curry’s system but also created a brotherly bond between the duo.

Speaking of CP3 in 2018, Steph said, “He was a great mentor when it came to understanding how a guy on his level prepared over the summer for an NBA season.” However, the 2014 playoff series between the Clippers and Warriors altered everything. Draymond Green, speaking of his act, further said, “They were super tight. I started intentionally creating a rift because I felt like CP was using that to his advantage. And then, as I’m creating a rift with them, me and CP [clashed], and under no circumstances do I even want to correct it.”

Have an interesting take?

Unlike the two players, this act from Green didn’t break any player from the Warriors fold. But it still ruined the bond between Paul and Steph. Nevertheless, the duo seemed to have sorted it after they joined hands in the 2023-24 season, where the Dubs played with dominant heads on the roster. What do you make of Draymond Green’s confession?
