Is the Warriors' championship window closing with these persistent injury woes?

More trouble in the Bay Area! It has only been four games since the Warriors’ season started, but they have already begun facing health concerns. Yes, they somehow made an epic comeback last night and beat the Pelicans without Stephen Curry. But as they prepare for another round against the same opponents from New Orleans, the Baby-Faced Assassin has already been ruled out of tonight’s rematch. And now, the latest update on Andrew Wiggins has only increased Steve Kerr’s problems.

Well, the former No. 1 pick was initially listed as questionable on the injury report, after a prompt from the head coach, because of a lower back strain. Upon further assessment, it has been determined that he will not suit up tonight.

Turns out, Wiggs suffered the injury during Sunday’s game against the Clippers and Steve Kerr has revealed that it was not because of a specific play. Instead, his back randomly tightened up while he was on the floor. So, it is surprising that he was able to go off for 29 points in that game. But he did miss yesterday’s clash because of the back issue, and it looks like he hasn’t fully recovered yet.

Sure enough, that’s a massive blow for Steve Kerr, who is already adjusting to Steph Curry’s absence. Yes, the sharpshooter has been out dealing with a left peroneal strain and the hooper will be re-evaluated on Friday, which will determine his status for the next game. De’Anthony Melton is also unavailable because of a lower back issue. So, the Warriors are going to be extremely shorthanded tonight.

Steve Kerr expects a “great season” from Andrew Wiggins

With Klay Thompson perishing from the Bay Area, the veteran head coach is expecting other star players to step up their game. Especially Wiggs. Even after he scored 20 points in the season opener, Steve Kerr had high praise for the forward, “This is kind of what we’re expecting this year, honestly. Peace of mind. Great shape. In the prime of his career. I think Wiggs is poised to have a great season.” Well, Andrew certainly has the talent to play at a high level as he proved during the Warriors’ title run two years ago.

However, the hooper did not look his best last season as he averaged a career-low 13.2 points. But things could change this year now that he has the green light from Kerr, “When your head coach believes in you and gives you that confidence to let it fly, go out there and play pressure-free, it feels good.” Sure enough, he’s urged him to shoot more threes this season, and Wiggs has been doing exactly that so far. 3 games in, he’s averaging 6.3 attempts from deep, which is almost double the amount he averaged through last season!

Hopefully, the back injury will not halt Andrew Wiggins’ momentum for long and he will continue to impress in the upcoming games.
