Joe Lacob might have to press the gas before it’s too late. The Golden State Warriors under Steve Kerr seemed to have completed a full circle after their early exit from the 2023–24 season. Steph Curry, the superstar of the pack, who is currently on the last stretch of his eventful career, received massive support from Stephen A. Smith for another round. However, the Warriors have to think on their feet, as they have a ticking time bomb at their disposal.

The veteran NBA analyst went on to bat for Steph in his recent appearance on the Willard & Dibs podcast. A. Smith urged the Warriors front office to provide, “Steph Curry whatever the hell Steph Curry wants,” as he claimed that the franchise owed him that. He further continued, saying, “Curry is the closest thing to a God-like figure that you got in that area… Too invaluable. Too untouchable. And oh, by the way, still a star. That man needs more talent. Go get him more talent.”

The ESPN reporter further demanded the Dubs find a better-supporting cast and sign Steve Kerr for years to come. He further added, “As a team, relevant in the championship equation. He deserves no less, he’s still a SUPERSTAR in this league. The brother is the epitome of perfection when it comes to a professional athlete.”

The Warriors, in fact, had a promising season despite the early exit. After a shaky start to the season, Steve Kerr managed to extract a young attack with Jonathan Kuminga, Brandin Podziemski, and Trayce Jackson-Davis. Probably the future core of the side. However, they have a major problem, heading into the off-season, involving Klay Thompson. The 4x NBA Champ, who is yet to sign his extension with the side, is expected to be traded to the Philadelphia 76ers, as per Yahoo. The Dubs front office has to make a quick call before they disappoint Steph Curry.

Will Klay Thompson sign his extension with the Dubs?

The 34-year-old guard for the Dubs had a disappointing end to the season. The sharpshooter had trouble matching up to his shooting standard at the start of the season. It even made Kerr push him to the bench after giving Podziemski a chance in the starting lineup. However, Thompson got back to his rhythm and ended the regular season on a high, averaging 20-odd points in the last 20 games.

On top of it, a report suggested that Klay declined a 2-year extension worth $48 million in January. Moreover, Marc Stein reported that he has also developed a strained relationship since the exit of Bob Myers. While China Klay was expected to get an enticing offer in the offseason with his late flurry in the regular, it vanished immediately when he couldn’t bother the scorers in a do-or-die game in the Play-in Tournament.

Amid this uncertainty, many trade rumors took over the NBA world. Recently, the Yahoo report suggested the Sixers may look to strengthen their backcourt by roping in the catch-and-shoot star after the Tobias Harris disappointment. While Stephen A. Smith urged the Dubs to provide Steph with whatever he wanted, losing his beloved Splash Brother could end up as a blunder.
