How Stephen Curry got a brutal reality check

The son of former NBA player Dell Curry, Steph quickly picked up where his father left off and took up basketball. Despite his mother being a volleyball player in college, basketball was something that attracted Steph more.

Curry started showing signs of greatness at an early age during his years in high school. Given that both his parents went to Virginia Tech, a young Steph too wanted to follow in his parents’ legacy and attend that college.

However, Curry got a brutal reality check early on in his life. In Curry?s latest documentary titled Underrated on Apple TV+, both Curry and his father Dell went on to shine some light on that whole ordeal.

In the documentary, Dell said, ?So, the Virginia Tech coach came to the house. And he said, ?You can definitely play. No doubt. We see the skill. But we don?t have a spot here. Well, he?s too little. He?s gonna get pushed around. He?s not big enough to play major D1 basketball?.?

Then the Warriors guard went on to say, ?I think that speaks to how I didn?t pass the height test. But I really felt like I could play with all those guys. If I can just get an opportunity somewhere.?

Curry went on to make history

Stephen Curry could not get the opportunity to get his jersey number get hung next to his dad?s at Virginia Tech. The elder son of Dell went on to commit with Davidson and the rest quickly became history.

The Golden State Warriors drafted Steph with the seventh overall pick in 2009. And quickly, Curry became the face of the franchise. And within a couple of years, he went on to become the face of the league as well.
