Can Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards' bond inspire the Timberwolves to overcome their challenges this season?

Following an almost perfect season, the Timberwolves were mentally preparing to go all in and address the unfinished job. It is right then that the bomb dropped on them. Every headline had one story in common: Minnesota was ready to part ways with Karl-Anthony Towns after 9 long seasons. All of a sudden, the team was broken up and their dreams of bagging the championship trophy together halted. Anthony Edwards certainly felt that one, and even his girlfriend Jeanine Robel had the same feeling, as she recently shared her heartbreak from the KAT trade.

But this move was never in the plan. Unbeknownst to Karl-Anthony Towns, who was ready for the championship chase again, he disclosed his intentions on the Club Shay Shay Podcast. When host Shannon Sharpe asked him about his brotherly bonding with Ant, KAT said, “I just wanna help him grow in every single facet of his game, not only his game but his life. You know, I wanna help him be a better man.” The Dominican also wanted to help Anthony Edwards be a better brother to his siblings.

Not only that, KAT further stated, “I wanna be able to help him, the ways I feel that sometimes I couldn’t get that help because, you know, I was in a situation.” The 7-footer mentioned that he knows how it feels to be in a situation that Ant is in. Despite being the No. 1 2020 Draft pick, the shooting guard couldn’t add any title to his name in the league. And it’s only going to get tougher from here. Since the 2000s began LeBron James and Derrick Rose have been the only first-draft picks to actually win the MVP title!

So, KAT wanted to be his support system and help him grow in every possible way. “I just wanted to be a support system for him in any way possible I could. I want to help him grow. I think in helping someone achieve their full potential and something that I feel that I’m gonna continue to work not only as a leader but just helping him as a brother. You gotta let them be free, you can’t give them too much constraint,” the newly-turned Knick added.

Considering Robel’s heartwarming message on Instagram, it is fair to say that she was close to KAT and his girlfriend, Jordyn Woods. “I’m going to miss my friends this season! The crew has been separated. [broken heart emojis],” Jeanine wrote on Instagram. The close bond between the two couples showed the chemistry between Edwards and Towns, something that benefited the franchise on the court. But even after the split, it’s easy to assume that KAT’s admiration for Edwards will remain unchanged, as seen on the podcast.

Karl-Anthony Towns had all praises for Anthony Edwards, is he the next ‘face’ of the league?

Before he conveyed the kind of role he wants to play in Anthony Edwards’ life, Karl-Anthony Towns made a big confession. During the show, Shannon Sharpe asked KAT whether Ant was the future face of the league, as many claim. Without wasting a second, the 28-year-old answered in the positive. Justifying his view, the newly-traded hooper said, “I think he just has the charisma, age is on his side. He has athleticism, you know, and he got better at shooting the ball.”

Have an interesting take?

KAT believes that the NBA is a guard friendly league and Anthony Edwards has all the skills needed to strive for the best. “He’s a guard that has not only the skill, but the intangibles needed to really be the face of the NBA for years to come,” he added. Whether the league is guard-friendly or not, Ant is certainly making his presence felt. Before rocking the headlines in Paris, the Minnesota hooper closed his team’s 56-win NBA season with a Western Conference Finals appearance. While doing so, he blew away the likes of Kevin Durant and Nikola Jokic. The young gun averaged a stunning 25.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.1 assists.

Luckily, the former teammates will not come face-to-face in the preseason journey with their teams. However, it will be a treat to watch them in the regular season in their most competitive form! Thoughts?
