Walker Kessler was born to Chad and Andrea Kessler on 26 July 2001. He grew up in Atlanta, Georgia with his elder siblings, Houston and Lilly. The trio was very much into sports growing up, with his older brother playing collegiate basketball at the University of Georgia and his older sister playing volleyball at LSU.

Growing up, as the youngest of three, Walker described his childhood- it was always in a competitive environment! “I think being the youngest son can do that, too. Getting picked on you got to learn how to make quick comebacks and stuff like that; you gotta figure it out,” Kessler told KSL. He’s also mentioned that being the youngest helped him develop his quick wit and sense of humor. He learned a unique way to one-up against his older siblings. What is Walker Kessler’s family background?

Walker Kessler’s dad, Chad Kessler, has a pretty interesting story. He played college ball at the University of Georgia back in the 80s under hall-of-fame coach, Hugh Durham, and earned Academic All-America honors. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Clippers in 1987, but unfortunately, he was cut before the season. After that, he went on to have a successful career as an orthopedic surgeon!

Walker’s late uncle, Alec Kessler, also played college ball at Georgia and was drafted into the NBA by the Houston Rockets in 1990. He went on to represent the Miami Heat. However, Alec also became an orthopedic surgeon after his playing career!

That’s not all. His grandfather, Jay Kessler, used to hoop for the Golden Gophers at the University of Minnesota. Decades later, after being traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves, Walker Kessler honored his grandfather with a meaningful gesture. He wore the#31 jersey, the same number his grandfather sported in the 1960s. It was a touching tribute, connecting Walker to his family’s rich basketball history. “God works in mysterious ways,” Walker Kessler had said, “so to be here now is really cool.”
