The NBA All-Star Weekend has officially tipped off at the turn of the day. As the Bay Area goes through its last-minute prep to host all the stars the NBA has to offer, reactions and comments are bound to spill over to the streets and social media. One such incident has already taken the world by surprise. There’s not much left to be surprised about LeBron James, but the latest comment from Victor Wembanyama, going into the All-Star showdown, has the potential to raise a lot of eyebrows.
On his first selection for the glittery event, the media surrounded the French sensation for a quick Q&A session to lighten the mood. The first tough question that came Wemby’s way was naming the most underrated player in the league. And the answer will surely shock you. The 21-year-old named none other than the ‘King’. “I’m gonna go with LeBron,” he said. Bet you didn’t see that coming!
But he had a solid reason behind that. “Underrated just means you’re not rated at your right value. Right? I think LeBron’s underrated,” Wemby explained. While LeBron certainly gets his flowers for the incredible work he puts in on the floor to remain one of the best, what the Spurs star likely meant was that it still isn’t enough. The 40-year-old deserves to be rated even higher. Doesn’t seem like LeBron would mind that.

Apart from keeping the sass off the court, Victor Wembanyama is gearing up for a major clash on it. He’s already made it clear that he’s going all in for the tournament and has sent a warning to the other 23 All-Star players.

Victor Wembanyama warns fellow All-Star players ahead of the star-studded game
For years, the NBA All-Star Game has lacked entertainment, with players not taking it seriously and often putting in minimal effort to avoid injuries. Many have even voiced this concern, which forced league commissioner Adam Silver to change the format. Now, instead of the traditional East vs. West battle, there will be three games featuring four teams, making it more competitive and exciting—something everyone knows Wemby thrives on. But if other players try to ruin the fun for him, he might have to take matters into his own hands.
“If it turns out like every other recent game, slow and just playing around, I hope I can bring that contrast of a single guy who goes crazy, dives on the ball, hustles every play,” Wemby declared. “I’m definitely going to try to bring that energy.”

That’s the spirit! The Spurs center could very well become the center of drama we’ll witness on Sunday, as he’s definitely not going to let his first All-Star experience be bland. Wemby will be suiting up for Team Chuck’s Global Stars, who will have their first semifinal game against Team Kenny’s Young Stars.
While no one knows yet how the new format will play out with Wemby on the court, it’s hard to imagine anything going wrong. So, don’t miss out on all the fun that’s about to unfold.
