Is Victor Wembanyama the next big villain in the NBA? How will he change the game?

“I’m learning, and I’m worried for the opponents in a couple of years.” With his 26-point performance in the Gold medal match against Team USA, Victor Wembanyama announced his arrival to the world. Yes, he was not able to dethrone the reigning Olympic Champion. But his dominant performance in Paris made fans believe that the future is more than bright. And after letting his silver medal victory sink in, Wemby has issued another stern warning to the competition, leaving his fans wondering about the possibilities.

Disappointed by the loss on Saturday, Wemby was too emotional to celebrate anything on the day of the Finals. Obviously, the sting of missing out on Gold was way bigger than the joy of bagging second place. But once he looked back on what he had achieved at just 20, he made his intentions clear for the future. With that, he shared a few glimpses of his journey in the last few weeks on IG and wrote, “It’s just the beginning… Merci la France, merci aux supporters français. Éternellement reconnaissant.”

Well, it seems like the first half of the message, written in English, is an open warning to the rest of the world. Although France was unable to bag Gold for the 2nd straight Olympics, Wemby had one hell of a tournament, averaging 15.8 points and nearly 10 rebounds. Moreover, they were able to eliminate powerhouses like Germany and Canada with their collective effort. Once Victor gains more experience and enters his prime, the French squad will be a threat to everyone, including the mighty Team USA.

Meanwhile, the second half, for those who don’t speak French, was written in his native language as a personalized message for his local fans, “Thank you France, thank you to the French supporters. Eternally grateful.”

Hoops faithful ready for Victor Wembanyama’s ‘Villain Arc’

This is now the second time since the Finals’ loss that Wemby has issued a warning to the rest of the world. And his 4 million+ follower base was hyped to see where things will go from here. Looking forward to the Frenchman unleashing his wrath, one fan wrote, “Bro’s villain arc is gonna be scary.” Now that he has a year of rookie experience under his belt and has played against the best competition at the biggest stage, the bright lights will likely not affect him anymore and he can solely focus on improving his game. Moreover, looking at his meteoric rise in just his first year, many people believe that he will soon be in the GOAT conversation if he stays healthy. Sure enough, several fans began posting Stephen Curry’s iconic ‘Night Night’ gif to warn the league and many even flooded the comments with the ‘baby goat’ gif anticipating Wemby’s greatness.

Meanwhile, another individual pointed out that the 7’4 sensation has a long time to prove his mettle, “4 more Olympics to go champ.”

Maybe, missing out on a Gold medal when he is only 20 is the best thing that could have happened to Victor Wembanyama. Now, he can use this loss as motivation and work even harder to unleash his maximum potential. And seeing the career trajectory of players like LeBron James and KD who are still going strong in their late 30s, Wemby has at least 4 more Olympics left in the tank.

Even his French teammate Matthew Strazel resonated with the message and wrote, “We ain’t done Vic 🫡❤️” Surely, seeing how close they came to beating Team USA on Saturday, the French team believes that they can dethrone them the next time. Meanwhile, one fan was worried about what Wembanyama would do in the NBA now that he has revenge on his mind, “The league is cooked😰”

Averaging a double-double in his rookie season with 21.4 points and nearly 11 rebounds, Wemby was dominant from the get-go. But this added motivation could push him even more and turn him into an All-NBA caliber player next season itself. But the happiest to see Wemby’s ‘villain arc’ was the San Antonio Spurs who appreciated the youngster with clapping emojis “👏👏👏”

Obviously, if the Frenchman goes insane with his performances next season, Coach Pop’s young team will benefit the most. On top of that, the Spurs have added veteran leader Chris Paul to their roster this summer and he could help elevate Wemby’s game to the next level as he has done for several young stars over his Hall of Fame career.

Following Wemby’s warning, fans cannot wait to see what he brings to the table next season.
