The San Antonio Spurs are preparing to face the Phoenix Suns tonight, and things aren’t looking in their favor. Right as the Spurs geared up for their second clash in a row against the Footprint Centre stars, unfortunate news just hit on their wonder kid Victor Wembanyama.
According to a post on X, ” D. Barlow questionable ( g league), Victor Wembanyuama questionable (left ankle sprain)”. However, as per a recent update, the youngster has been ruled out of the game. So far into the season, the French baller has averaged 20.7 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 3.5 assists. Furthermore, the Spurs recorded 7 losses in 8 games without their forward. Wembanyama’s availability might thus cause heavy hindrances to tonight’s home team as they look to break their 3-game losing streak.

In the last match-up between the two, the Suns displayed impressive offensive efficiency. They shot nearly 60% from the field and over 45% from beyond the three-point line. Devin Booker stood out as the top scorer with 32 points. Despite his season average of 20.7 points per game, rookie Wembanyama encountered difficulties against the Suns’ defensive tactics, resulting in a modest total of 13 points for the game.
What’s up with Victor Wembanyama?
During San Antonio’s March 5 game against Houston, Victor Wembanyama appeared to suffer an ankle injury in the second quarter. He was substituted out less than two minutes after the incident. However, he returned to action at the beginning of the third quarter and played for almost the entire second half. Despite initially being listed as questionable due to a shoulder injury, Wembanyama was cleared to play against the Rockets. He sustained the shoulder injury with 3:29 remaining in the fourth quarter of the Spurs’ 117-105 victory over the Indiana Pacers on Mar. 3 at the Frost Bank Center.

The injury occurred when Pacers center Myles Turner fouled Wemby after falling for his pump fake, causing Wembanyama to land awkwardly on his shoulder. Despite showing signs of discomfort, Wembanyama remained in the game, even making crucial free throws to extend the Spurs’ lead before being replaced with 51.2 seconds remaining in the game. While the seriousness of his condition remains unknown, the Spurs will look to limit the Suns who are seeded 6th with 4 wins from their last 5 games.
