The San Antonio Spurs rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama has been on the news now and then. Recently, the 7’4 French national was out due to an ankle sprain but quickly bounced back to the Spurs starting lineup. Amid his minor injury, the number one overall pick in the 2023 NBA draft met another 2023 number one pick from the NHL.

And it was none other than the Chicago Blackhawks rookie, Connor Bedard.

The San Antonio Spurs recently lost a game to the Chicago Bulls. On the road, the Spurs were in Windy City and had the opportunity to indulge in activities that were not related to basketball. One such thing was the Spurs’ number one overall pick meeting the number one overall pick of the Chicago Blackhawks. Victor Wembanyama recently met up with Connor Bedard and was immensely impressed afterward. Not long after meeting him, Wembanyama had a few words about his interaction with Bedard. According to San Antonio Express-News writer Tom Orsborn, Wembanyama had a great experience meeting Connor Bedard. He went on to say, It’s not often – almost never – that I get to meet people so great that also have so many similarities with myself.”

Connor Bedard too was touted as one of the best rookie sensations in the NHL. Something that he and Victor Wembanayama both have in common before entering their respective leagues.

So, for Wemby to find similarities between him and Bedard should not come as a surprise. Both players were scouted and were on every team’s list as the players to draft before draft night. Hopefully, Bedard too has a sensational rookie year the way Wembanyama has been having.

Wembanyama playing with a tweaked ankle

Before the game against the Chicago Bulls, Victor Wembanayama missed the game the team played against the Milwaukee Bucks.

The 7 ‘4 forward ended up tweaking his ankle which led him to miss the game against the Bucks. Though he did play against the Bulls, the Spurs rookie was on the floor for only 22 minutes as opposed to his season average of 30.

Though he played limited minutes in the game against Chicago, Wemby said, “I was just a little out of breath but nothing unusual. Now that I am in the NBA, even three days without a game feels like two weeks.”

Let’s hope that he returns to the floor with his usual minutes after receiving a clean bill of health.
