Stephen Curry's worry about political violence—Is America becoming too dangerous for public figures?

In the wake of the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, 4x NBA champion Stephen Curry has voiced his displeasure. While Curry is currently with the USAMBT in Abu Dhabi preparing for the Olympics, he tried to surmise the mood in the locker room after head coach Steve Kerr also spoke up about the incident. Calling it a “sad time in general,” Curry encouraged correcting “as a people“.

“It’s obviously very sad time in general. All the conversations around the election and the state of politics in our country, and then you have a situation like this, which just invokes a lot of emotions around things that we need to correct as a people,” Stephen Curry stated as per ESPN.

Obviously g*n control first and foremost, because the fact that that’s even possible for somebody to have an attack like that. But just moreso you want to [see] positivity and hope. It sounds cheesy, but it’s real. That’s when our country’s at its best and it just adds another blemish to what’s going on. So sad is just the word,” he further added.

The assassination attempt took place when Donald Trump was addressing a crowd at a campaign event in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday. The former POTUS escaped the attack as a bullet grazed his right ear. 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks was identified as the g*nman on early Sunday morning.

Meanwhile, Curry is not the only one who expressed his thoughts. Even the head coach for Team USA Steve Kerr expounded the case. He was moved by what happened as his father had been a victim of g*n violence in Beirut, Lebanon back in 1984.

Steve Kerr condemns the assassination attempt along with Stephen Curry

“This is a time where we feel very proud to represent our country wearing USA on our chest, competing in the Olympics,” Kerr said. “We’ve talked to the players about how important it’s to show the best version of us as human beings to represent our country in a respectful, dignified manner. It makes you want to do that even more so, because this is really shameful for us to sit here and think about what happened and what’s going on in our country… Thank God Trump wasn’t hit, but it’s just so demoralizing in every which way.”

Kerr’s father was shot twice in the back of his head by two assailants in the hallway outside his office. He was the President of the American University of Beirut.

Even though there is no clarity over the motives of the g*nmen, Kerr remains a vocal opponent of g*n violence. And he didn’t back out even in the recent incident. As for Trump, he was released from the hospital and has returned to his home in New Jersey.

Crooks, on the other hand, was killed by law enforcement right after he fired shots at the former president. To look further into the matter, the Oversight Committee has summoned the US Secret Service director, Kimberly Cheatle, for a hearing on July 22. We await further updates on this incident.
