Women’s sports have made huge strides in the last couple of decades. One of the biggest testaments to that was the NCAA Women’s Finals between LSU and Iowa. The viewership dwarfed the Men’s leg and put Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark to further prominence.

The growth of viewership coupled with the growing interest from various organizations has plunged women’s sports into a whole other realm. In another such example, the NCAA Women’s Volleyball Final shattered the ceiling. To celebrate that, Angel Reese says her piece.

On 30 August, the ‘Volleyball Day in Nebraska” was celebrated. To mark the event, 92,003 people showed up in Memorial Stadium, Lincoln. This broke the attendance for a women’s sports match-up. The event featured back-to-back games, beginning with a contest between the Wayne State Wildcats and Nebraska-Kearney. Then they went into a frenzy as elite Nebraska Cornhuskers dusted off their rivals Omaha Mavericks in three sets.

This made NCAA basketball phenom Angel Reese full of pride.

This tweet signifies her belief in the boost mode that women’s sports have hit. She can proudly have her piece as someone who has taken part in the changing fortunes.

The celebration of women’s sports isn’t surprising for someone like her. She has worked her way up and earned such recognition that she became a millionaire even before joining the pro ranks.

Her program LSU is also producing phenoms like Flau’jae Jackson and also signed college superstar Hailey Van Lilith. These women are taking the baton further. Therefore, next season, Bayou Barbie will be inspired to defend her title.

The global picture can also gauge the undercurrents of her comments. Many sports have taken strides and are developing a Franchise approach to take the field to further heights.

The budget allocation has grown and so has the TV contracts. Wages have increased, but there is a lot of scope for improvement on that front.

Wage issue in WNBA

While many sporting associations have increased the wages for women in national-level sports, the Franchise-based model has some ways to go. The case of the WNBA is especially concerning. Because there are just 12 teams, many talented players like Emily Engstler and Destanni Henderson had to wait for some time to sign a deal, which was not secure. The wage gap between the NBA and WNBA is just difficult to justify in many ways.

The highest-paid WNBA players, Diana Taurasi, Jewell Loyd, and Arike Ogunbowale, earn $234,936 per year. This deal is way below the veteran minimum or other lower-paying contracts in the NBA.
