Stephen Curry will undoubtedly go down as one of the best players in the league. What made him stand out from the rest, apart from his remarkably short stature for a professional basketball player, is his three-point shooting and his unshakeable determination to succeed. Curry, who started out as a player who no one paid heed to because of his height, now stands tall with four championship titles under his belt.

However, despite the fact that Curry has a net worth of $160 million as of 2023, his mother, Sonya Curry was not impressed. Instead, she had a big ask from her NBA champion son.

Stephen Curry recently released his documentary, Underrated. In it, he takes his fans along on a journey down his career at Davidson, while providing a peek at his personal life. In a particular scene of the documentary, Sonya is seen sitting around with Steph’s cousins, Mercedes and Lexus Safford, and Candy Adams, Stephen’s grandmother. The whole family is reminiscing about a pre-NBA Stephen Curry.

Sonya Curry then bought up how Stephen Curry was an unplanned pregnancy. She wanted to get through college first before having kids. However, she had both the Curry brothers before she graduated. Stephen turned three when Sonya graduated. She was the first one in her family to get a degree. And when Stephen declared for the NBA a year early without graduating, she was not having it.

She said,?“When Stephen decided to declare for the NBA a year early, I wanted him to really understand how important it was for him to get his degree. But then, Stephen is the only player who has not gotten their degree under the tutelage of coach McKillop. So, it has been a thorn in his side from me. And then he’ll be like, ‘I just won three championships.’ And I’m like, ‘You’re right. Now get the diploma championship.'”?
