14 threes in a game. 60 points on 11 dribbles. 37 points in a quarter. The list goes on. Klay Thompson has given the fans some iconic moments during his twelve-year career. So, its heartbreaking to think that his journey might soon come to an end. At least that’s what Klay hinted at during his recent interview. “I’m tryna remind people too, like I’ve had great success with Anthony and Ky. We won a world championship in 2014, so it’d be nice to end our careers together, or at least my career with them.” The Splash Brother said, while expressing his desire to win at a high level with his new co-stars before he hangs his boots.

If retirement is close, then its likely that Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving are Klay’s final superstar teammates. While Kyrie is already done for the season due to a torn ACL, the former Warriors sharpshooter is still building his relationship with AD. The good news is – Things have finally started clicking between the two as the superstar duo came in clutch last night against the Hawks.

With the Mavs trailing by three points and less than a minute to go, Thompson hit a deep three to level the score, coming off a screen by AD. Then, The Brow took over and hit a tough floater fading away from the basket to ice the game. But the job was not done – The Mavs still needed a stop to confirm their victory. As expected, Davis showcased his defensive prowess and forced Trae Young to shoot an airball, getting a miraculous win for the Mavs.

After the game, Jason Kidd dove into AD and Klay’s incredible chemistry and budding on-court relationship, “Yeah, I think when you talk about vets, it can become seamless when you have a skillset that AD’s ability to dribble and DHO, play make. Also, Klay being able to run off screens off of AD or vice versa.” Yes, the duo compliments each other’s skillset perfectly. Davis is primarily an interior player who can handle the ball when needed. The amount of attention he attracts from defenders allows Klay to find easy and open shots. This season, The Splash Brother is shooting 39% from deep range.

Kidd continued revealing the unheard details, “I thought you know Klay was great. Being able to run him off screens, trying to get to know each other, run a different offense. As much as we wanna play fast, we also can’t leave the big guys behind. So, we gotta make sure that they touch the ball. I thought in the first half we were taking quick shots in transition instead of kind of just taking the best shot. That sometimes turning one down to give another one especially when you have D Live and AD out there running.” The duo combined for 51 points and got the job done. Moreover, Klay is loving every minute of playing alongside a big like AD.

Klay Thompson makes hopeful Anthony Davis confession as Mavs fancy playoffs chances

This year has been a major transition for both Klay and AD. While the former Warriors star moved to Dallas last summer after spending his entire career in Bay Area, The Brow got traded there only a couple of months ago.

With Luka Doncic now in Los Angeles and Kyrie sidelined, Klay has stepped into a leadership void, rallying the squad with his four-title experience, a resolve that hints retirement might wait if this group gels.

Then, Davis suffered an adductor injury that sidelined him for multiple weeks. Despite getting limited playing time together, Klay has loved the experience, “I love being his teammate, I love playing off him. And can’t wait to build, not just for this year, but for the future.”

While Klay has played with multiple superstars in the past, there have been none quite like AD. Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant were either perimeter players or mid-range shooters, but Davis is more dominant inside the paint. So, it’s a new style of play for KT and if things go well this year, he might even put his retirement thought on hold and focus on building the Mavs’ future with Davis and Kyrie.

But first, they need to get past the Play-in tournament and qualify for the playoffs. Following last night’s win, the Mavs are in the ninth spot and will likely finish there with only five regular season games remaining. Despite the odds stacked against them, Klay is hopeful about finishing the season strong, “We’re just taking it one game at a time. And I know once we get whole, we have a chance to really put a great end to this season, regular season. And we still have big goals to make it to the postseason. But right now, we’re just trying to take it one game at a time and enjoy this run.” How far do you think Klay and AD can take the Mavs this year?
