Jimmy Butler’s situation with the Miami Heat has finally reached a boiling point. As their saga continues to dominate headlines, Jimmy’s future with his team remains somewhat unclear. It’s a quite tense scene with serious business implications. But it looks like what began as a crisis has now turned out to be quite a hilarious situation.
Following Butler’s suspension from the Heat, recently DoorDash made a string of tweets about his current situation. The post said, “Now that you’re unemployed, let us know if you need a free DashPass subscription. The extra savings will come in handy.” Not only these tweets are extremely humorous but offer some insights into the uncertainty surrounding the 35-year-old forward.

The multi-billion dollar startup did not stop there. In a subsequent tweet, they simply posted, “@kevinlove” directed at Heat’s forward Kevin Love. But these tweets are not just some silly banter on the internet. It’s part of a trend which began after Butler’s suspension. Kevin, who’s known for trolling his mates online, shared a meme about Jimmy’s situation, from the 2001 movie Training Day.
Love’s Instagram post captioned, “Jimmy immediately after hearing he wasn’t in the starting lineup… #haywoodhighsmithoverme???” Butler took the humor and one-upped with his reply, which started a string of back-and-forth trolling sessions. Kevin even shared a hilarious moment on Instagram in which the two were seen at a store’s checkout.

In the clip, Jimmy was trying to make a transaction with his credit card, which was declined. And someone in the background said, “You’re currently unemployed so your card doesn’t work, sir.” It’s clear that Jimmy and Kevin share quite a close bond. While DoorDash’s tweets for sure added another layer of entertainment, the reality of Butler’s situation remains serious.
Jimmy Butler’s road ahead with ongoing trade speculations
Recently, there were some reports suggesting that the Phoenix Suns, once considered Jimmy Butler to acquire, might be backing away from trade talks. It was said that the Suns are focusing on improving their roster by exploring other avenues. Those reports hinted the team was eyeing acquiring Hawks’ guard Bogdan Bogdanovic. This shift in focus further complicates Butler’s future and raises questions about his potential landing spots.

It was also reported that the Warriors view Zach LaVine as a safer option. It’s clear that an image has been built around Jimmy following his request for a tradeoff. But if this narrative is built around him, it could further complicate Butler’s future. With $46 million already due, it seems like he might go back to the Heat as some sources suggested that he’ll pick his $52 million player option in the off-season.
Jimmy has appeared in 25 games this season for the Heat, averaging around 17 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists. While it’s hard to ignore his contributions to the team, Miami’s current stance with Butler does not offer any positive signs. With the 6 Feb. trade deadline approaching, it seems like Jimmy’s future with the Heat is hanging by a thread.
