The Philadelphia 76ers pulled a hard-fought victory against the Utah Jazz tonight. It was largely thanks to Tyrese Maxey and his dominant performance. Breaking his own career-high 50 points, the 23-year-old All-Star erupted with 51 points in the Sixers’ 127-124 win.
It was only a few hours earlier that he was named to the All-Star reserves. That could have very well been a motivating factor, but his impressive performance also got him a name among the NBA greats.

Maxey’s previous 50-point game was against the Indiana Pacers on November 12, 2023. The second 50+ point game got him in league with some of the top names of the NBA. More specifically, Wilt Chamberlain, Allen Iverson, and teammate Joel Embiid. They are the only Sixers in league history with multiple 50-point games in one season.

The first time All-Star had missed three of his previous games due to a hamstring injury. And there were doubts as to whether he would suit up tonight. Philly was also missing their dominant big man, Embiid. So, Maxey’s return to the court couldn’t have been at a better time.
But that’s not all! While the above-mentioned names are exclusive to the 76ers, there is yet another equally star-studded club. Not only did the young guard have 51, but he landed them with 0 turnovers on 60% FG. And that put him on par with the late Kobe Bryant, Luka Doncic, and Rashard Lewis – the only players in NBA history to have such a game!

Talk about insane luck. It almost makes you wonder if he’s got a horseshoe hidden somewhere. As wishful as that is, Philly fans don’t believe in such things. Neither does Maxey, it seems. He is averaging 26.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game this season.

The fact that the head coaches considered him worthy of a place in the All-Star game speaks volumes. But Tyrese has a hard time believing that, it would seem.
“It’s surreal”: Maxey on being an All-Star
Before the splendid night he was about to have, Tyrese was asked how he felt to have his name on the All-Star list. The Sixers’ official X account tweeted the barely concealed excitement of their point guard. “It’s surreal, honestly. It’s just crazy. It hasn’t even soaked in yet. My mom just called me, screaming in my ear. But thank y’all. Appreciate y’all,” he said.

He didn’t forget to thank his loyal fans for their devoted love and support. If there was anyone who was left with even a minuscule doubt, his mesmerizing performance should have cleared that right up. As mentioned above, his averages each season have only seen a steady improvement.
