Tyrese Maxey looking like Ronnie Coleman—Is the NBA's drug test policy getting out of hand?

In a span of just four years, Tyrese Maxey has turned into a superstar in the league. Having a breakout season this year, averaging 25.9 points and over six assists, he has made the Philly fanbase believe that he could be the future pillar of the Sixers organization. And fans were ecstatic to see that Maxey has already begun putting in the work to come back stronger next season as a video of him working out recently made rounds on social media. However, the 23YO point guard invited some trouble with the viral video as some fans became suspicious of his new avatar, leading to a strict action from the NBA.

Up until now, everyone was used to seeing Maxey as a skinny, athletic ball player, using his quickness and agility to dominate his opponents. But the latest workout video showed him far more buffed up than usual, even leading to some fans accusing him of taking some added juice to attain that physique. Sure enough, the video and the NBA World’s reaction also caught the league’s attention as the NBA drug tested the Sixers star, which he revealed in his latest tweet, “I really got d**g tested because of y’all—followed by laughing emojis.

Now this is not the first time the NBA has made a player take a drug test after seeing something out of the ordinary. Just five seasons ago, then-Lakers guard Alex Caruso had to go through a random off-season drug test after images of his transformed physique went viral. In similar fashion, veteran sharpshooter Danny Green was also drug tested that year after he made an insane putback dunk during a regular season game, taking everyone by surprise. So, Philly fans should not be too surprised knowing that Maxey’s buffed-up physique raised some eyebrows in the league office.

NBA World reacts to Tyrese Maxey’s random drug test

While fans likely meant it as a joke, their accusations brought some unnecessary trouble Maxey’s way. And as the Sixers star hilariously blamed the fans for his random drug test, the NBA World instantly went into defense mode, explaining why they thought he was juiced up. “Nah you got drug tested cus you came out looking like Ronnie Coleman” one fan wrote, comparing Maxey’s physique to one of the most accomplished bodybuilders in history, obviously as an exaggeration.

Meanwhile, one fan hilariously trolled Maxey with a twist on his own quote where he said, “That’s what I’ve been working on all my life and getting better at… 1% better every single day.” Only in this scenario, the fan claimed that the point guard got “1% swole every day.”

And one honest netizen took partial blame for Maxey’s ill fate as he was among the few who questioned his physique when the Sixers star appeared at a presser after signing his five-year $204 million extension.

Taken aback by Maxey’s insane transformation, one fan even gave him a new nickname ‘MAXSWOLE’ claiming that his broad shoulders and ripped muscles make him look like a big man instead of a point guard.

Amid all the defensive fans, one person asked the most important question, “Did you pass the test Tyrese?” While Maxey blamed the fans in his tweet, he never clarified if he actually passed the test.

Whatever the case, Maxey’s transformation has caused a stir around the league and he will surely cause a lot of trouble for his opponents next season once he combines that new physique with his basketball skills.
