Positionless basketball is marked by the Three-Point Era of the League. Shooting is a hot commodity in the outside-inside style. Therefore, it is essential to have as many as four shooters in the lineup. If the fifth one, usually the Center can shoot, then that is a bonanza. This new style of play still encounters resistance from traditional bigs like Bam Adebayo and Steven Adams. But the coaches love having a stretch-four or a stretch-five.

In this vein, shooting phenoms Klay Thompson and Paul George give immense honor to perhaps the best stretch-four and stretch-five duo in the league.

Thompson went to Podcast P With Paul George and the two picked the best shooters, position-wise in the current era. Splash Bro begins by declaring, “Point Guard, first pick, it’s a easy one. I think we all know, his name is Wardell Curry II. Revolutionized the game at the Point Guard position. You know the range of what is considered a good shot, Shooter GOAT“.

Then George declares, ‘Gotta go Dame”, picking Lillard as his Point Guard. At the Shooting Guard, Thompson picks himself. PG-13 then picks Bradley Beal. Then the Warriors SG selects Kawhi and the host of the podcast Paul George himself together. The host then surprises with his Wing pick, taking Kings’ sharpshooter Keegan Murray, who will enter his sophomore year in the 2023-24 season.

Then Thompson selects Kevin Durant. After that, George glowingly states, “At four, I’m gonna go Michael Porter Jr”. Thompson acknowledges his pick and praises MPJ, saying, “He has got a great jumper”. Then the Warriors Shooting Guard picks his five, commenting,” It’s hard not to pick Jokic after what he did in the last Playoff. He shot like 46% from three, that’s ridiculous!”.

The duo of MPJ and Jokic combined for 81 threes on a combined 38.2%. Porter Jr took 55 more shots, making 11 more than Jokic’s 35. Overall, the two are one of the most efficient shooters from deep and form a deadly shooting duo.

Thus, Thompson’s lineup rounds up as
PG: Stephen Curry
SG: Klay Thompson
SF: Paul George/Kawhi Leonard
PF: Kevin Durant
C: Nikola Jokic

George’s lineup rounds up as
PG: Damian Lillard
SG: Bradley Beal
SF: Keegan Murray
PF: Michael Porter Jr.
C: Myles Turner

It’s not surprising that both the speakers figured in the list themselves. They are elite shooters in their own right.

Thompson and George are A-list snipers

As sharpshooters, Klay and Paul are among the best names. Klay has more of an off-the-dribble, catch-and-shoot style. Meanwhile, Paul likes to work off the dribble much more, while he can be a reliable catch-and-shoot option too. Klay can become tenth in the All-Time Three-Point Made list next season.

He is just nine away from overtaking Jamal Crawford. Paul George is 14th on the All-Time List and he can take over now-retired Paul Pierce and still-active Lowry next year if he is healthy.

This intimate input reflects how the league is full of various options shooting-wise at all positions.
