The Las Vegas Aces have continued their dominant run in the WNBA into the 2023 season as well. After winning the coveted championship last season, the Aces have added further talent to their roster this season to run it back. Their efforts have also shown great results as they sit comfortably as the 1st seed in the Western Conference. However, their star guard, Kelsey Plum recently landed herself in trouble with a notorious WNBA star.
Kelsey Plum has been a cornerstone in the Aces lineup. The 2-time All-Star played a pivotal role on their roster during their championship run and has continued to impress this season as well. However, she uncharacteristically slammed her face on a WNBA star during a recent game. This action landed her in major trouble. Interestingly, the player that she got into trouble with faced ejection not so long ago for a feud with a 5’9 guard.

However, in a recent game against the Washington Mystics, the $200K worth guard did something very uncharacteristic.
The Aces took on the Mystics in a regular season encounter recently. With 1:46 remaining in the third quarter, Mystics guard Brittney Sykes fouled Plum hard while trying to steal the ball. However, instead of just taking the foul, Plum retaliated by slamming her hand on the 29-year-old’s face.
Plum’s actions caused an immediate consequence. The former Sixth Player of the Year got called for a technical foul, citing a hostile act. However, it is interesting to note that the player Plum fouled is not the cleanest when it comes to feuds. Just a few days before this incident, Sykes got into trouble for brawling with the Los Angeles Sparks’ guard, Layshia Clarendon.
Sykes is a notorious defender
Brittney Sykes is undoubtedly a renowned defender in the WNBA. The 29-year-old has proved her defensive tenacity, earning 3 WNBA All-Defensive Team honors. She also led the league in steals back in 2021. However, the Mystics guard does not shy away from playing dirty when required.
During a match between Los Angeles Sparks and Washington Mystics, Sykes showed her dirty defensive tactics. The Sparks and Mystics fought an intense battle that came down to the wire in their regular season matchup. With the scores reading 83-80 in favour of the Sparks with 32 seconds remaining in the game, chaos ensued.

Sykes’ actions not only ended up getting her and Clarendon ejected but also cost the Mystics the hard-fought game. Kelsey Plum evidently treaded on thin ice when she slammed her hand on Sykes’ face, given her history. However, the foul did not cost the Aces much as they registered yet another dominant victory in the league.
