The Philadelphia 76ers are drowning, and no lifeline seems strong enough to pull them back. With a 23-45 record, they sit at 13th in the East—far from where they dreamed to be. Injuries have wrecked them, and without Joel Embiid, their championship hopes have crumbled. Desperate, they turned to Paul George, but that gamble fell apart too. Now, only a miracle—if one exists—can stop this season from becoming their worst nightmare.
But miracles don’t exist in the NBA. This league spares no one, and Philly battles a storm they can’t escape. Now, about Paul George—the 9x All-Star, the seasoned veteran, the supposed savior. He entered Philly with countless accolades, but none have mattered in his first year as a Sixer. Instead, two ex-hoopers have delivered him and his team a brutal reality check. Three-time NBA champ and former 76ers hooper Danny Green sat with Lou Williams and Michelle Beadle on FanDuel’s Run It Back.
He had a simple verdict for his ex-team and Paul George. “As a unit, collectively, I say it’s an F. But individually, when he played, I wouldn’t give him an F,” Green mentioned. “I think he had moments where he looked, I mean, he didn’t look like the Paul George we’ve seen before, but he didn’t look bad. You know, so he’s dealing with knee issues. I give him a D plus C minus as an individual.” It’s disappointing to see PG graded a D or C-plus. But with brutal injuries wrecking the team, can you really blame him? Expectations crumbled like waste paper.

Paul George didn’t meet expectations in year one with the 76ers because he never expected to be Philly’s number one option 😳
“He’s supposed to be alongside Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid. When you don’t have those guys there, it’s harder for him to perform.” – @DGreen_14 pic.twitter.com/Wx6OEa06PV

Thus, Danny Green further added: “He’s supposed to be alongside Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid. You don’t have those guys there. It’s harder for him to perform.” The 34-year-old shooting guard wasn’t particularly meant to be the No.1 option for the team because they relied largely on Embiid. George came in to be the third option. “He came in to get them over to him. That’s it. Not to be the number one option,” Green noted.
Meanwhile, Lou Williams didn’t hold back. He said: “I gotta give it an ‘F.’… The positive about it is, now he understands what Philadelphia is about.” So, the ex-Clipper star handed an ‘F’ to Paul George saying that he surely understands the Philly culture. For a long time, the team has been dependent on one star, and that is Joel Embiid. Despite his season-ending knee trouble, the franchise has decided to not budge from its priorities.
But now, even PG is on the verge of missing out the remaining of the 2024-25 NBA season. This means the responsibility of pulling the 76ers through will now lie on Tyrese Maxey. Well, even Jared McCain is out with his season-ending injury, if he were around, the two youngsters could’ve helped the team in tough situations. Sadly, it looks like the Basketball Gods are simply mad at the Sixers.
Paul George will likely miss the rest of the NBA season
Earlier in March, the 76ers front office ruled The Process out for the season. His persistent knee injury has ravaged his career before, therefore to stay on the safer side, the franchise doesn’t want to risk things further. Thus, the 31-year-old big man now has no choice but to undergo medical procedures. Now, the same fate has fallen on PG.
Paul George is out for six weeks. The Sixers confirmed he received injections in his left adductor and knee. Just like that, his regular season is over. Another blow, another setback—Philly just can’t catch a break. Meanwhile, the nine-time All-Star, whose 2024-25 season didn’t map out perfectly played 41 games for Philadelphia this season. He wraps up the season with 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists—far from what the Sixers had hoped for.

As you can see the Sixers gambled big, but fate had other plans. Injuries shattered their season, and now Paul George joins Joel Embiid on the sidelines. Their championship hopes? Fading fast. Tyrese Maxey must now carry the weight, but with little support, the road ahead looks brutal. Philly fought, but the Basketball Gods never played fair.
