The Eastern Conference is a strange mix. When teams like Milwaukee and Boston are doing their best to get better in this off-season, some teams are hell-bent on staying the same. The Sixers find themselves in soup once again with the James Harden situation, but at least Daryl Morey and the front office are putting up a fight. But the same is not the situation with the Chicago Bulls team, which seems poised for mediocrity once again.

The Bulls are attracting quite many offers for their two mainstays but are hell-bent on spurning them off. But why would they want to preserve a team that is going nowhere?

The Chicago Bulls? Picture.

Last season Zach Lavine averaged 24.8 points per game in his 77 appearances, while DeMar DeRozan averaged 24.5 points in his 74 appearances. Both these players are consistently contributing to the Bulls. Yet they could only finish tenth in the Eastern Conference and bowed out without even making it to the play-in tournament. Despite their best, this duo cannot push the Bulls into contention. They should either get a third star who could propel them higher, or should part ways with either Zach or DeRozan to make space for a Superstar. But this Billy Donovan team has done neither in this off-season. They are as they were last year.

In their preseason opener, the Bulls faced a second-string Milwaukee Bucks team that beat them without having Giannis or Damian Lillard. Despite that, the bulls are latching on to Zach Lavine, who is attracting many trade offers. There are reports that the Bulls are demanding too much for Zach Lavine to detract any interest from others.

The Bulls need fresh blood.

The Trail Blazers did not hesitate to part ways with Damian Lillard to build for their future. OKC which was in a similar state, has become a solid team. The Bulls front office should look up to these teams and make some drastic changes to rescue their storied franchise from mediocrity.

Just like Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks, Joel Embiid was expected to have a breakthrough to take the 76ers to their first title since 1983. At a personal level, Joel has become the MVP of the league, but his team is a long way from being a title contender. The Bulls neither have a Giannis nor a Joel Embiid, yet want to play it safe. They must be missing Jerry Krause badly.
