The New York Knicks fans have found a reason to cheer louder in recent years. All thanks to Jalen Brunson single-handedly putting them in the playoff picture, and propelling them through the toughest of storms. Now, as Brunson solidifies his status as the team’s leader, he has been enjoying a rather collegiate-like environment in NY. The transition came after the acquisition of Josh Hart made an ideal locker room for Donte DiVincenzo.

The trio share similar roots, dating back to their Villanova Wildcats days. Now, as the three stars extend their camaraderie to screens for a YT podcast, Donte reminisces about the brutal induction he faced from the team’s coach and the title he received.

Donte has tasted success on each level of the game. He is a high school champion, an NCAA title holder, and has an NBA ring to his name. So, when Josh and Jalen Brunson probed about the lessons he learned through winning, DiVincenzo couldn’t help but talk about the inception of his college career. Immediately going to his “Michael Jordan from Delaware” moniker, Donte exposed that it was coined due to his overconfidence rather than as a praise.

As Donte transitioned to college ball from high school, he admitted seeing himself as the top dog on a squad. However, an encounter with Jay Wright, Vollanova’s coach, flipped the narrative against him. Despite the blow to his confidence, soon, as Donte helped the Wildcats garner multiple NCAA titles, he regained the diminished glory in his nickname.

Donte DiVincenzo played high school ball for Salesianum, leading the team to two consecutive state championships. In college, he played a crucial role in securing the 2016 and 2018 national championships while being named the Final Four Most Outstanding Player. Transitioning to the NBA, Donte won a ring with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2021.

Stephen Curry advised DiVincenzo to pair up with Jalen Brunson

Donte came to the Knicks after a stint with the Golden State Warriors. Despite the short tenure, Donte developed a close bond with Stephen Curry. So, when several teams sought his service in the off-season, DiVincenzo turned to Steph for advice.

At the time, Donte was contemplating offers from the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Knicks. While weighing his options, he quickly hopped on a FaceTime with Curry.
