It was another chapter of Trae Young wiping the floor at Madison Square Garden. After a mediocre first half, the Hawks, led by Young’s charismatic playmaking turned the tables. A 34-18 run in the third essentially sealed the game. From that moment, it became the Hawks’ playground, with their ace skipping around the MSG. And he reserved his best celly for the very end.
With a ticket to Las Vegas captured Trae Young rolled the dice on the Knicks’ logo. “I rolled an eight. And then I picked it up. And then I rolled it again. So I picked up the money after that and we left” he explained the celebration. Unlike the fans in the arena, his wife Shelby loved the celebration, posting it on her Instagram story.
However, the unknown is this was a family plan all along. Days before the game, Young revealed having conversations with his younger brother and coming up with an apt celebration to commemorate a trip to Sin City. “I planned that one with my little brother a few days ago. We had talked about that and I knew what I was going to do. We were going to Vegas, so that’s what I had to do,” said the three-time All-Star.

Trae Young had the kind of game to cherish the win. After a sluggish start to the game, he was the focal point in the Hawks’ monstrous third quarter. Young’s back-to-back triples to first take the lead and then went back to being the glue of the team. His 11 assists was a game-high and the 19th time he has generated 10+ assists in a game this year.

How did the Knicks feel about Trae Young celebrating?
Young balling out against the Knicks has become a familiar sight in recent seasons. The crowd, for obvious reasons, aren’t appreciative of his demeanor. That is exactly what motivates the Hawks’ playmaker to continue embracing his role as a ‘villain’. He describes it to be a “love-hate” relationship with the crowd.
But as painful as it is for the fans, it’s more agonizing for those who endure the damage. Trae Young sucked the life out of the New York side, and the frustrations were palpable. Karl-Anthony Towns spoke frustratingly with the media when asked about the Knicks’ difficulties with finding consistency.
But the captain, Jalen Brunson had to field a more direct question. He was asked about his reaction to Young’s antics. Rather than hold any vengeance, Brunson chose to be blunt. “We should win the game if we don’t want him to do that,” said the Knicks ace. It resonated with the feelings of a game lost rather than defeat.

The Knicks were on song, holding a seven-point advantage after the first half. KAT had a double-double and looked as if he would have another destructive game. But Brunson was unable to launch his technical prowess, hounded by Dyson Daniels all night. Hence, his tone seemed to resonate with disappointment with his performance.
Now 2-0 against the Knicks, it does set up an enticing season series that could potentially also be a playoff series.
