The fans of the Atlanta Hawks have endured a horrid season. The Hawks were expected to contest for a guaranteed playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. However, to the dismay of their fans, they currently languish in the 10th spot. Atlanta’s season got a whole lot worse when franchise cornerstone Trae Young sustained a radial collateral injury (RCL) in his left hand during a late February game against the Toronto Raptors.
The Hawks announced that Trae Young would need to undergo surgery to repair his RCL, resulting in a minimum four-week absence from the game. Young’s injury comes at the worst possible time for the Hawks, who have hopes of competing in the playoffs. But without him, the quest would be very difficult, especially with Chicago, Indiana, and Philadelphia blocking the final berths of the playoffs.
Recently, Trae Young appeared for an interview with Bleacher Report wherein he spoke about his surgery experience. He said, “I was nervous as hell going into the hospital. It was my first surgery. My dad said I had something when I broke my leg when I was like three, but I obviously don’t remember that. Knowing the surgery is about to happen, there’s just lots of anxiety… But it was quick and easy, but definitely nervous going into it.”

Trae Young further noted, “There’s just a lot of anxiety going into it. But it was easy. I had a really good doctor that did it out here in New York. So got me right, but it was quick and easy.” Young also revealed that he has been aching to go back into the court and play alongside his team. He said that while he is trying to stay engaged in the Hawks’ matches, being on the sidelines is very different from being on the court.
The Hawks would want Trae Young back on the court as quickly as possible. This season, Trae became a 3x All-Star and has averaged 26.4 points, 10.8 assists, and 2.4 rebounds. But despite Young’s individual brilliance, the Hawks have struggled to deliver consistent performances. This begs the question: Is Trae Young’s association with the Hawks coming to an end?

Will Trae Young leave the Hawks after this season?
The Hawks currently languish in the 10th spot of the Eastern Conference standings, with 28 wins from 62 games. Fans didn’t expect such a decline from a Hawks team, who reached the Eastern Conference finals in the 2021 playoffs. Atlanta has failed to build upon that impressive postseason showing.

Furthermore, the Hawks’ acquisition of Dejounte Murray also hasn’t panned out. Reports suggested that the Hawks were open to the idea of trading Murray before the trade deadline. His chances of staying with the Hawks may increase if the team makes it to the postseason once again and does well. However, with Trae Young out, Atanta’s chances are slim at the moment.
