The Atlanta Hawks’ 120-119 win over the Orlando Magic came at a crucial time for Trae Young. On a cold streak for the first few games, Young came back with a vengeance in the matchup. Scoring 41 points in Mexico City has him back in the grace of fans and the NBA world.
Trae’s comfort in taking shots from practically anywhere on the court and a majority of them being true shots, got the Hawks that win. This victory makes it all the sweeter because, one – the most obvious fact, Ice Trae is back from his hibernation mode. Second, the 41 points got Young in a “special” record.

We have heard over and over again how Doncic and Young are connected since the draft trade. In a surprising turn of events, it looks like the thread that binds them together has intertwined once again. Trae’s 41 points not only got his team a coveted win, it also tied him with Luka for the most points in a single game. In Mexico City. The post-game media talk saw him recount the special moment, “To do that while winning makes the night way more special.”

During his appearance on the ‘Draymond Green Show’, Trae disregarded any speculation about a rivalry with Doncic. He said, “I don’t even stress over it no more … We got a lot of love for each other, a lot of respect for each other … To be honest, I don’t get caught up in it.” That’s great advice for everybody who lets unnecessary rumors get to their heads.
Being a celebrity athlete comes with its fair share of narratives (true and otherwise), rumors, and one-sided stories. This is just one more thing to add to that list. Aside from that, Trae Young looks like he is getting his groove back in terms of gameplay. And this is not the only time Young was tied with Doncic.
Young and Luka’s ‘tie game’ goes way back
The year is 2021. The Atlanta Hawks are being continuously beaten down by the formidable Nikola Jokic and co. But there was just one instance where Young and his team overpowered Denver. February 21, 2021 – their first matchup saw the Hawks beat the Nuggets 123-115.

Considering they had to somehow keep Jamal Murray and Jokic away, it wasn’t an easy feat. In fact, it was the double-doubles from Capela and Collins, and Young’s sharp eye that helped Hawks clinch the first win. What made it extra special was Trae’s impressive stats – 35 points, 15 assists, and six rebounds. With that, he tied with Doncic to do so before the age of 23.
