Draymond Green’s return to the lineup could not end the Golden State Warriors’ struggles. Stephen Curry and Co. got humiliated 116-107 by a Ja Morant-less Memphis Grizzlies tonight. The Warriors had odds in their favor as they are historically the winningest NBA team on MLK Day. But that record proved meaningless in tonight’s game. Despite the former DPOY back in the rotation after missing 16 games, the Warriors’ defense failed miserably.

Draymond addressed the Warriors’ abysmal defense after the game, garnering heat from the NBA World.

After the Warriors lost to the Memphis Grizzlies, Draymond Green revealed why the team’s defense has been so bad this season. “Just gotta have pride in yourself as a man that I’m not gonna let my guy score. Our closeouts were too soft, our rotations were too slow. So, it’s just no pride.” Green said. According to Green, the Warriors’ defense will continue to be bad until each player takes responsibility for stopping their man. Green’s comments saw the wrath of the fans as they expected him to breathe a new life into the Warriors’ defense. One fan even requested the Warriors to trade the veteran star, “They should trade this guy.” The NBA World followed suit.

Many fans blamed Green for the Warriors’ struggles because he has missed the majority of the season due to his multiple suspensions.

Some fans agreed with Draymond and slammed the Warriors players and coaches.

While most fans spoke against Draymond, some were satisfied with his performance after missing over a month of action. They pointed out other players’ abysmal performance instead.

A loss to a struggling Memphis side with 3 starters out was not the comeback game Green would’ve wanted. However, with all the fan outrage on Draymond, did he deserve to be blamed for the loss?

Is Draymond Green responsible for the Warriors loss tonight?

While many blamed Draymond Green for the Warriors’ humiliating loss against the Grizzlies, he did not perform too badly on his return. Green had a decent game, finishing with 7 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists in 23 minutes of play. He was one of the few players on the Warriors squad who was effective on defense. The fans had high expectations from the returning Center as he has the experience to help the Warriors turn their season around. But it is not fair to blame Green for the loss as it will take him some time to adjust to the team.

There are several other factors apart from Green that led to the Warriors’ loss tonight. Klay Thompson continued his abysmal form and scored only 9 points. Head coach Steve Kerr was unable to make any adjustments despite the Grizzlies playing without multiple superstars, including Ja Morant, Marcus Smart, and Desmond Bane.
