Fans of San Antonio Spurs have witnessed some scintillating basketball being played. Which led to multiple NBA titles, but in the past five to six years they have found themselves on the wrong side of the table. This led to the Spurs winning the sweepstakes for French phenom Victor Wembanyama. With Victor, the future looks really bright as the Spurs look to build a title-contending team around Wembanyama.
On Friday, the Spurs faithful got to see the French phenom at the Frost Bank Center, where the Spurs were hosting an open scrimmage.
Wembanyama gets a Standing Ovation from 13,200 Fans

The San Antonio Spurs drafted Victor Wembanyama with the first pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. He was one of the most hyped draft prospects since LeBron James. The 19-year-old Frenchman has all the attributes to become a superstar and the Spurs would look to harness that potential from Victor.
Wembanyama couldn’t have hoped for a better team to be drafted into, as the Spurs have prior experience of managing big men with huge potential. The Spurs managed to nurture players like David Robinson and Tim Duncan into NBA superstars and they would like that to be the case with Victor too.
According to ESPN reporter Andrew Lopez, Wembanyama received a standing ovation from the San Antonio faithful. The Spurs hosted an open scrimmage at the Frost Bank Center and 13,200 fans attended the open training. V
ictor acknowledged the adulation he got from the supporters, saying, “It really warmed my heart to see that every time a player of our team stepped on the court, they almost had a standing ovation”. He added further, “It’s all I expected but it still feels good”. Victor would like to feed from all the positivity surrounding him and put on a show for the fans. As he makes his debut in two days against the OKC Thunder.

One of the Best Young Cores
The last few seasons haven’t been kind to Spurs fans. They regularly finish at the bottom half of the table. But that period of gloom could all be over, as Wembanyama has severely altered the prospects of Spurs. Fans and analyst alike have touted Victor to win the Rookie of the Year award but he faces competition from Scoot Henderson and Chet Holmgren.

Fans of Spurs would be hoping that their team can end their long playoff drought this season. They have built a solid roster that complements Victor’s skills perfectly. The Spurs already had the likes of Devin Vasell, Keldon Johnson, and Jeremy Sochan. If the Spurs nurture this group of young players, then we could be looking at the start of another Spurs dynasty for years to come.
