An opportunity has presented itself once again for the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Timberwolves last won a game in Toronto when Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was out 2 months from release. Yes, it was 2004. Two decades later Anthony Edwards and Co. can change this miserable record. Some of you hardcore fans may say the Timberwolves beat the Toronto Raptors on the road in 2021, right? Well, with the pandemic taking over the world, the Raptors played in Tampa, Florida that season.
The Timberwolves have faced a turbulent season following the Karl-Anthony Towns trade, battling inconsistent performances and swinging between winning and losing streaks. On the other hand, the Raptors’ struggles have been even more surprising. Injuries have plagued their roster, making them one of the league’s most underwhelming teams so far.
The Timberwolves edged out the Phoenix Suns in a close 120-117 victory, showcasing a strong offense with 52% shooting from the floor. However, defensive lapses allowed Phoenix to shoot an even more impressive 54%. Meanwhile, the Raptors delivered their best offensive performance of the season in a 130-119 win against the Indiana Pacers. They shot an outstanding 59% overall and 48% from three-point range, setting a season-high mark for efficiency. Let us take a look at both teams’ injury reports.

Will Anthony Edwards lead the Timberwolves to make a winning streak 3?
The Timberwolves are monitoring the availability of PG Mike Conley (toe) and SG Donte DiVincenzo (back) ahead of Thursday’s game in Toronto. Both of them are listed as questionable. Conley is dealing with a “left great toe sprain,” which marks his first injury designation this season. Previously, the 37-year-old sat out a back-to-back in Portland for rest but has missed no games because of injury so far. If Conley can’t play, it will leave a notable gap in Minnesota’s backcourt.

DiVincenzo, who was a late addition to the injury report before Sunday’s win over the Suns, managed to play through back spasms and contributed a strong 15 points off the bench, including a season-high five three-pointers. While his performance suggests he might be available on Thursday although nothing is confirmed yet.
Conley, averaging 7.5 points and leading the team with 4.8 assists and 1.7 steals per game, has struggled with shooting efficiency this season. Meanwhile, DiVincenzo, still adjusting to his new role, is putting up 9.4 points per game on 35% overall shooting and 32% from beyond the arc. Both players’ availability could significantly impact Minnesota’s lineup.

Carton (ankle) will miss Thursday’s game against the Timberwolves. He’s still sidelined with an ankle injury he picked up while playing in the G League. Even once he’s cleared to play again, his chances of seeing NBA minutes are slim. It looks like he’ll need to wait for a bigger opportunity down the line.
