Is LeBron James still the Lakers' top dog, or is it time for AD to shine?

It’s been zero days since LeBron James‘ standing in the GOAT ranking hasn’t been scrutinized. As the 39-year-old freak of nature keeps smashing record after record every night he steps foot on the court, the legend only keeps growing. Is the full stop to that journey in sight? Talk is plenty regarding that, but now it has even dragged another anomaly of the sporting world– the former NFL star, Tom Brady.

But that didn’t bode well for Anthony Davis, as his status as the best Lakers player on the current roster came under scrutiny. On the latest episode of Fanduel TV’s ‘Run It Back’, former NBA star Dennis Scott made the bold claim. “That’s the most significant thing that LeBron has done a phenomenal job of taking care of his body… And LeBron has been available for 22 years for the most part. He’s had a few injuries here and there, but we cannot find another person in any sport in 22 years,” the 56-year-old said about LeBron’s fitness.

Comparing the two icons of the NBA and the NFL, Scott added, “Like, Tom Brady at 45. We would agree that Tampa Bay defense was sick. The weapons he had around him was sick. LeBron is still the best player in the Lakers. I love you AD, but LeBron’s still the best player.”

The comparison didn’t start there though. Earlier in the show, Chandler Parsons also made his point clear about LeBron’s retirement plan. “He’s going to have so much opportunities business-wise after basketball. He’s going to do the Tom Brady thing,” Chandler said. “He’s going to end up owning a team. He could do commentary.”

According to Shams Charania LeBron will probably play one more season but might postpone retirement for Bryce James’ draft. There’s no telling if LeBron James will be the best player in the Lakers but according to one of his teammates AD is the best of the lot.

LeBron James might be the top dog in the Lakers but AD is the finest in Austin Reaves’ book

The Lakers are 6-0 at home and the big credit for the record goes to the duo of LeBron and AD. While LBJ became the oldest NBA player to record a triple-double, Davis is the 2nd top point scorer in the league. And him playing as a hub in JJ Redick’s system has made a real difference.

His teammates including LeBron have been appreciative of that but Austin Reaves took it up another notch. During a post-game press conference, Reaves said, “I feel like he’s the best player on our team, and we played through him. And he’s such a high level talent, that I expect him to go out every single night and be dominant. So what he’s been doing it’s unreal. But I expect him to dominate the game in many facets. So, you know, I’m just lucky to have him as a teammate.”

AD will again have the chance to impress tonight against the Spurs in the NBA Cup group game. JJ Redick has already made the Cup’s priority clear as the defending champs. But AD this time will have to overcome literally his biggest challenge so far, Victor Wembanyama. As far as LeBron is concerned, he’ll probably keep the statisticians on their toes as a new record just might be created at AT&T Center.
