Jalen Brunson is someone who always has a joke to share. The 28-year-old along with his Villanova boys has cracked up a few jokes in recent times, at least on the internet. Last night, the NY Knicks guard revealed how Kenny Smith put him in a hilariously uncomfortable situation, leaving the room full of reporters to crack up. Well, it was the All-Star Weekend after all; there’s no harm in showing the teeth. However, JB’s joke came in the wake of his critical view of the latest ASG format.

The Day 3 of the ASW was almost entirely dedicated to beloved TNT broadcasters. The Inside Guys (Shaq, Chuck, Kenny, and Ernie), hosted their supposedly last season as TNT broadcasters. So, in order to honor them, the league went all the way to make the event centered around them. Out of the All-Star selections, NBA legends Shaquille O’Neal, Charles Barkley, and Kenny Smith put up a roster of their choice.

While Shaq and Chuck went with OGs and international players, respectively, Kenny picked up a young roster. In fact, the Rockets legend has set a strict age bar on his roster. This is where Jalen Brunson found himself in an embarrassing situation. So, after the event, a reporter asked about his time on Kenny’s team. Without any hesitation, JB pulled out the hilarious moment from the locker room, saying, “Kenny came in and said, ‘This is the young stars of the league. I didn’t want to draft anyone over 25.’ And then everyone looked at me… I’m 28, and I was just like, ‘Ahh.’”

However, it didn’t seem to demoralize Brunson, as it took in a positive light. He added, “But it’s cool to be in a room with those guys with so much potential and a lot of basketball ahead of them. I’m always excited when I get to do stuff like this.” Despite being an outcast on the side, the Knicks guard has managed to stick his hand out for the team. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough. Regardless of having dynamic players like Anthony Edwards, Jaren Jackson Jr., and Darius Garland, Kenny’s young stars couldn’t make it past the first game. Well, Brunson knows the reason behind it.

Jalen Brunson revealed his honest thoughts on the All-Star format

Did you notice something on Sunday night? Even though it felt like we witnessed a lot of balling action, it still felt less. Jalen Brunson, who usually anchors his team loaded with points and assists, recorded only three points and three assists. Well, we can blame the format for the half-hearted experience. Even Brunson felt the same.

What’s your perspective on:

Jalen Brunson at 28—still a young star or just the old guy in a young crowd?

Have an interesting take?

Speaking about the format, he said, “I think it’s interesting. It’s different.” But JB had something more to add, “The games are kind of short. I like the format. It’s something new, something unique. Maybe, just [raise the] score to 50, maybe.” However, he did appreciate the league’s effort to try different things, saying, “I like how we’re trying new things. But we’ll see going forward. You never really know what to expect, but it was all right.”

While Brunson was kind enough in his criticism, the NBA world definitely wasn’t impressed with the format. Some fans found it unfair to give the rookies and sophomores to share the stage with All-Stars while several deserving players got snubbed in the selection. Nevertheless, the bottom line is that the league is trying to make it interesting. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
