Approximately 3-4 weeks — the time the Lakers set in February for the re-evaluation of Jarred Vanderbilt after his diagnosis of a mid-right foot strain. So, the fans waited. When the time finally came, the franchise announced that Vando would need surgery on both feet, and the supporters continued waiting. Before the new season began, the LA team showed optimism about his return, but even that didn’t happen. But now, fans’ patience has reached its limits, and they are fuming.

Lakers Insider Mike Trudell stated on X that Vando’s recovery process will be delayed. “Jarred Vanderbilt’s rehabilitation will continue for the next couple of weeks before the next update,” he stated. While his activity levels have increased, Trudell noted, “the progression has been more gradual than the team anticipated.”

The reporter further mentioned that the Lakers will be patient as Vando gradually improves because they focus on the bigger picture. “There have been no setbacks, but initial expectations have been adjusted, and they want to keep the long-term in mind,” he added.

Before the new season, head coach JJ Redick revealed his plans for Vanderbilt. “I can’t wait to coach him,” he said. “Obviously, he has some rehab to do for the rest of the summer, but when he’s healthy, he’s going to be a big part of what we do.”

However, this didn’t sit well with the fans. They had already waited far too long, expecting just a few weeks, but those weeks have now stretched into nine months. So, the Lakers nation flooded social media, expressing its frustration and fury towards the franchise.

Fans go wild following Jarred Vanderbilt’s injury update

“Trade, waive, sh*t I do not care! I’m so tired of this ni**a,” wrote one fan. Vanderbilt came in last season, raising the franchise’s expectations, but could only appear for 29 regular season games. While there’s no doubt about his abilities, Vando hasn’t had the chance to showcase his A-game yet. After waiting so long, when this fan learned that they had to wait even longer, they lost interest in the player altogether.

Most fans shared a similar view, “Just trade this ni**a omfg,” read one of the comments. With no trades made yet, the fan urges the LA officials to trade Vanderbilt. Moreover, Vice President Rob Pelinka is in the final year of his contract, so there’s more pressure on him to make moves that will improve the team and make them more championship-worthy.

Another commenter said, “Trade him. ” The Lakers need a reliable asset, as they have been heavily dependent on LeBron James and Anthony Davis for the numbers. Making the right moves now could ultimately secure Pelinka’s future with the franchise.

“Lakers need to make a trade then,” wrote a fan. “Can’t just keep waiting for him and Wood to be healthy. Lakers defense is suffering and they need to find a solution ASAP.” Like Vanderbilt, Christian Wood also underwent knee surgery before the season. And according to Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times, he is expected to rest for four more weeks before returning to action.

Someone jokingly stated, “By the time he’s back, LeBron might be retired and coaching him instead 🤷‍♀️.” The 4-time champion has already hinted that he doesn’t have much time left on the hardwood. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, it is roughly two or three seasons, including the current one. Given that Vanderbilt has been sidelined for almost a year, the fan felt he would return after LeBron’s retirement.
