It’s time for a major reality check: the Golden State Warriors are nowhere near a resurgence this season. Whether fans like it or not, this is the harsh truth. Sitting at 11th in the Western Conference with a 22-23 record, the Warriors seem to be teetering on the edge of irrelevance. At this point, it might take a miracle to reverse their fortunes. And it’s not just the team, Stephen Curry, or Steve Kerr showing signs of discouragement—it’s the Dub Nation too.

Consider this: if a marquee matchup featuring Curry and LeBron James can’t light up the Chase Center, something is deeply amiss. Anthony Slater and Marcus Thompson of The Athletic shed light on the team’s waning energy during their visit to the Bay Area for the much-anticipated Christmas Day game.

It was supposed to be an electrifying showdown between two of the NBA’s biggest stars—LeBron and Steph. But the reality couldn’t have been more different. The Warriors fell to the Lakers in a narrow 113-115 loss, and what stood out wasn’t just the defeat but the atmosphere itself. “Chase is boring,” the insiders observed—a damning statement that encapsulates the current mood around the team.

In their latest episode of the Warriors Plus-Minus podcast, Slater shared his Christmas Day experience in San Francisco. He said he didn’t feel the energy of a James vs. Curry game night. Fast forward to January 25, another Golden State Warriors vs. Los Angeles Lakers game. And it looks like the trouble persisted. On Saturday too, the Warriors lost 108-118 to LeBron & Co. “This was like the Saturday primetime slot ABC. I know it wasn’t that game, but it felt like it should be that atmosphere,” Slater shared. He further added: “It had no punch tonight.”

But the major problem lies in how the Dub Nation has been reacting to the games. The NBA insider continued: “It’s not even like tense or upset or frustrated. Fans that are anxious or mad that they’re, not where they should be this year or wasting Steph’s final years. Or it just was, as you said, it was like, ‘Eh, nice, nice outing tonight.’ Kind of like some golf claps for some nice plays and some Laker fans peppered in and then go on about your night. That’s exactly what it was. It was, you know, burgers, dogs, and halftime shows. That’s what it was.”

Well, this information should raise concerning eyebrows within the camp of the Golden State Warriors. They’ve lost their entertainment quotient in the 2024-25 NBA season. And maybe, just maybe, even the fans have given up hope that a comeback is possible. But, with the trade market open for the next 10 days, Mike Dunleavy Jr. could play his cards. Simply put, it’s time to shake up the roster because clearly, Dennis Schroder’s trade wasn’t enough.

Could the Warriors trade for a 9x All-Star to ease Stephen Curry’s load as time runs out?

Look, Klay Thompson is already gone! Andre Iguodala has retired from professional basketball. The only core veterans left in the Golden State Warriors squad are Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. Over the last few days or weeks rather, there have been rumors that the Dubs might want to trade Dray to solidify their young roster. But, there have been no moves from the front office regarding this.

What’s your perspective on:

Is it time for the Warriors to trade big and save Curry's legacy from fading away?

Have an interesting take?

Meanwhile, the Warriors are at risk of wasting Curry’s twilight years. Despite his loyalty, the current roster feels like a disservice to his legacy. Time is running out, and GM Mike Dunleavy needs to act fast. A move like acquiring Dennis Schroder isn’t enough—it’s time to go all-in while Curry is still playing at an elite level.

Instead of clinging to the future, the Warriors should target a veteran star like Paul George. With the 76ers in turmoil and George’s form fading, Philly might be willing to deal. It’s the bold swing the Warriors need to stay competitive without sacrificing young talent like Kuminga or Podziemski.

At the same time, their interest in Zach LaVine isn’t fading away either. Moreover, with their eyes fixed on the biggest name: Giannis Antetokounmpo, there is a faint chance that the front office will tread the trade scenes carefully to turn their dreams into reality in summer. The Golden State Warriors are crumbling, both on the court and in spirit.

The spark at Chase Center is gone, fans seem indifferent, and Curry’s golden years are slipping away. It’s do-or-die time for the front office. Whether they chase Paul George, Zach LaVine, or even dream of Giannis, bold action is the only way forward. Because if not now then when? The higher-ups should show concern as the dynasty’s fate hangs by a thread. Drop your views on the entire situation in the comment section down below!
