Tim Hardaway Jr’s trade into the Dallas Mavericks in 2019 during the season was a shocker for fans, even for the man himself. When it comes to the NBA trades, they are packed with emotions, drama, and a whole lot of surprises. Word also gets around about possible trades among the organization as well as the fans, but they are just words until they come true.

Tim remembers how everyone was all hush-hush about something after practice; this was when he realized something was up. As he recalls, everybody’s spirit was down, but that wasn’t going to affect him. So, off he went to Barney’s New York.

Tim says in the

Run Your Race podcast, “I’m going to be up, I’m about to go buy something then buy **** nothing in that.” He continues, “So I get back in the car. Driver said, ‘Did you see this? You’re getting traded.'” Tim, having never experienced anything like this before, says that he had heard of players getting traded mid-season; but experiencing this firsthand was definitely a shocker. However, he wasn’t the only one being let go by the Knicks.

The more his driver spoke, the more he found out. His driver said, “

You, KP [Kristaps Porzingis],? Courtney Lee for Wesley Matthews, DeAndre Jordan, and Dennis Smith Jr.” The Knicks had made some major moves then, by acquiring Dennis, DeAndre, and Wesley from the Mavericks in exchange for Tim, Kristaps, and Courtney.
