The Superman’s persistent effort continues! The 2020 NBA Champ, Dwight Howard, hasn’t found an NBA franchise to deliver his service following his free agency in 2021. Importantly, the big man has tried all possible ways to get back into the league in the last three years. Moreover, he also stressed that he wouldn’t stop his hunt until the ‘big move’ from LeBron James. In this situation, the 38-year-old veteran eyes the void in the OKC Thunder frontcourt after Chet Holmgren’s grave injury.

The Oklahoma side recently had an unfortunate situation in the middle, as their sophomore center, technically a third-year player, suffered a right iliac wing fracture after an ugly fall. With the center sidelined for at least 8 weeks, the Thunder don’t have a ready replacement. The backup big, Isaiah Hartenstein, who joined the fold in the offseason, has yet to lace up this season, dealing with a fractured left hand.

So, for a fact, the OKC side has a vacancy!

Eyeing this opportunity, Dwight Howard teased the Thunder fold with his latest podcast with Kevin Garnet, which is yet to be aired. The big man didn’t just directly ask for the trade but had a unique approach to making his pitch. Howard hinted at the possible reunion that could fetch them their long-awaited ring. He said, “Me and AC together – Alex Caruso – Championship. I’m just saying.” Notably, Alex Caruso, who signed with the Thunder in the off-season, won the 2020 Championship alongside Howard at the LakeShow.

Moreover, Howard also had a five-word message to the OKC management, saying, “We done did it before,” hinting that he can help the Thunder win their first championship since they moved to Oklahoma. He also said, ” Y’all already got a superstar [Shai Gilgeous-Alexander]. Y’all just need somebody know how to play defense.” So, will they rope in Howard?

Will the OKC Thunder need a big star to replace Chet Holmgren?

As of now, the Thunder doesn’t seem like they need one. After Holmgren’s grave injury when he attempted to block Warriors’ Andrew Wiggins, the team played the remainder of the game with a small lineup. Interestingly, the team almost overcame a 30-point deficit to upset the Warriors. However, Stephen Curry helped the Dubs get over the line.

In the next game, the Thunder had all the options to recruit a big out of nowhere, considering Isaiah Hartenstein’s injury. But they again went a small line, with Jalen Williams, taking the number 5 position against the Clippers. Going up against the Clips’ big Ivica Zubac, Williams dropped 28 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists. Moreover, in the very next game, going up against Jusuf Nurkić, he dropped his season high, 31 points, 7 assists, 4 steals, and 2 blocks. So, it’s quite understandable that J-Dub is enjoying his new role on the side.

On the other hand, Dwight Howard seemed more persistent, as he revealed his retirement date involving LeBron James, saying, “I’m not retiring until (Goat emoji) retires.” So, will the Thunder’s attention fall on desperate Howard? Let us know in the comments below.
