The pandemic changed the way the world operated forever, as everyone had to adjust to the circumstances. The NBA was no exception as they introduced the bubble for the latter half of the 2019/20 season. Various stars previously came out to talk about their struggles in the bubble and recently Paul George did the same.
Three years back, he had opened up about his time there and the mental health issues he faced. The 33-year-old gave a bit more insight into it this time around on what he considered a prison experience.
The challenges faced in the 2020 NBA bubble

In the latest Podcast P with Paul George episode, the Los Angeles Clippers forward said,?“The bubble was prison,” while describing the situation. The NBA told the players that there would be recreational centers and activities inside the bubble. Paul mentioned that those took two months to open up entirely.

“Basically, we was just living like in jail,”?he said while reflecting on that period. To spend time off the training, he “used to just watch cars go by”?as they were not allowed to cross the border. George struggled because of it and it also started to affect his performances during that time.
He previously talked about it stating, ?I was just in a bad place?.?His mental state deteriorated, and he reportedly had to see a psychiatrist. “I had anxiety. A little bit of depression. Just being locked in here,”?he said three years ago to candidly admit the severity of mental challenges he was going through.

Despite the struggles, as a professional, he had to step on the court to help his team win. The Clippers were in the playoff but the 8-time All-Star initially struggled to bring out his best. In the first round against the Dallas Mavericks, he struggled in the first 4 games. George was able to make a comeback in the last two games as they won the series 4-2.
He pushed his limits hard once again in the next round against the Denver Nuggets. In the seven-game Western Conference semi-finals, Paul averaged 21.7 points per game. His endeavors fell just short as the Nuggets won 4-3.

The bubble to date remains a dreadful experience for many. With NBA stars like Paul George coming out and talking about it time and again, it serves as a reminder for us that our idols are humans too. Despite being in a bad place individually and mentally, he had to push through all the barriers and try to make it.
