How is LeBron James still this good at 39? Believe me when I say this, the entire world is left scratching its head, searching for ‘an answer’ to this question. Although Bron dominates every time he steps on the court, hoops enthusiasts are still awestruck when they witness the magic live, especially the clutch moments, those send shivers. Sure enough, Team USA’s managing director Grant Hill was also left in shock when he saw the 21-year veteran flying around on the first day of the Las Vegas camp ahead of the Paris Olympics.

Hill is genuinely and happily surprised about LeBron’s unprecedented longevity. And the question took him back to the first day of Team USA camp, “Once we met July 5, first of all, he came in at 39 and a half in ‘the best shape’. I mean, he was flying around.” Obviously, LeBron being LeBron, has never been out of shape. Then, Grant revealed a funny incident that left him stunned. “First-day practice, we’re scripting a lot of the offense, we’re not going live, and he might have dunked the ball 20 times in practice.”

Amazed by the King’s athleticism, Hill confronted him the next day at breakfast, “LeBron, you know when I was 39 and a half and I played in the league, I knew I had only 20 good jumps for the whole season and I didn’t waste them in practice. And you did 20 good jumps yesterday,” he revealed on Open Run. Both legends began laughing after Hill’s hilarious comment.

Just like LeBron James, Grant Hill also played in the league at age 40. And he was a legend in his own right making the All-Star team 7 times and rising to superstardom from his rookie season. However, his stat line was no match for LeBron, at 39, as Hill averaged only 10.2 points, playing only 49 games that season. Meanwhile, James finished his season averaging 25.7 points and 8.3 assists, showing no signs of slowing down.

Grant Hill is impressed by LeBron’s leadership and work ethic as he tries to list the veteran’s qualities

Although LeBron James’ longevity seems almost mythical, there is a method to his madness. Diving into how the 39-year-old is doing what no one else has ever done to this extent, Grant Hill said, “His consistency. He is always on time, he’s always the first one there. He is in the weight room every day. The professionalism and then the leadership. He’s a leader, he’s a great voice, he’s a connector, he’s a glue guy,” the Managing Director kept adding to this unbelievable list. By now, everyone is aware that James reportedly spends a whopping $1.5 million every year to maintain his fitness. And his dedication and consistency have paid dividends even in Paris.

Even on a star-studded Team USA, LeBron James has somehow managed to remain the most impactful player. During the group stage, he was among the top scorers with 43 points. Moreover, he was also the one running the offense as he averaged 7.3 assists. And even in the quarter-final against Brazil, James took over the game by scoring 12 points and 9 assists in just 17 minutes.

More importantly, his leadership has helped Team USA become a more cohesive unit. “We all have watched and admired his talents on the court. But for the last month or so, I’ve watched and admired just how he leads a team, and it’s very impressive,” Hill added.
