Steph and Ayesha knew each other when they were mere teens back in North Carolina. But it wasn’t until their 2008 Los Angeles encounter that they reconnected.
The couple has now been happily married for thirteen years. And who better to recount their initial encounter than Stephen Curry?
The sharpshooter sat down during a recent episode of Wired to answer the web’s most-asked questions about him. And one was about how the Bay Area power couple met each other. “I met Ayesha, junior year of high school at our church youth group,” he said. “So we didn’t go to the same high school. Didn’t really date, we’re in the same circle of friends and then dated like about three or four years later, and the rest is history.”
Ayesha thought of Steph as simply another cute boy and her teenage self concluded he wasn’t destined for her. But she succeeded in getting his attention and her quick post-church chats left a deep impression on him. They however went their separate paths when Ayesha pursued acting and modeling in Los Angeles, while Stephen’s basketball career took off.
And it wasn’t until six years later that the couple ended up reconnecting in Los Angeles.
Ayesha and Stephen Curry set out on their first date in Hollywood Boulevard, sharing chai lattes while visiting the famous Madame Tussauds wax museum. On Jimmy Kimmel Live, Ayesha told this endearing story with affection. She laughed as she remembered picking Stephen up in her 1998 Astro van.
The first “friend vibes” resulted in an unexpected turn of events. She described the situation by recalling the Golden State Warriors icon’s impulsive attempt at a kiss during a chat. “I mean, it was friend vibes…until I dodged the first kiss,” she told Parent magazine. “He was mid-conversation and came flying at my face like a thief in the night. So I was like, ‘No.’ Then I thought, ‘Oh, I didn’t know this is what was happening.’ ”
The two then started dating seriously and two years down the lane, they got engaged.
