Roughly a year after the controversial suspension from the Boston Celtics management, Ime Udoka returned to TD Garden. The Houston Rockets head coach is all set to take on Jayson Tatum & Co on a Saturday night encounter. However, ahead of the game, Udoka broke his silence on the Celtics players’ frustration after management suspended him.

Despite his clean track record on the court, Udoka didn’t have it off the court. Following his successful stint in the 2021-22 season, taking the Celts to the Finals against the Golden State Warriors, he had a fallout. In September 2o22, the Celts’ management suspended him over violation of multiple policies.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Udoka allegedly had an inappropriate workspace relationship with a woman and also used crude language. Following the news, he was immediately suspended and Joe Mazzulla was hired as interim head coach. Now that Udoka returned to Boston after a year, he has something more to add to the controversy.

During the pre-game press conference, a reporter asked about the Celtics players’ frustration when he couldn’t talk to them after the suspension. Notably, he took the team to their first NBA Finals in 12 years during his first year as a head coach.

In response to the reporter, he dropped a major revelation. He said, “Well, I would say they lied to you guys. They knew some of them knew … obviously I could talk to them and they wouldn’t share stuff publicly. So, who needed to know knew.”

Udoka didn’t reveal the name of any players or the matter what he spoke to the Celts after his exit. It was left to the reader’s imagination.

He said, “Overall I’d say I’m not too sentimental a person, so I’m not too worried about it.” When he said he wouldn’t worry about it, he further deepened the controversy with his new statement. This was the latest statement on this affair after the apology statement. Will the controversy end after this or further cracks open? Only time will tell.
